BETDAQ BIG-RACE ANTE-POST BET: The Newmarket Cambridgeshire meeting starts on Thursday with three days of top-quality racing culminating in the big race on Saturday, supported by two-year-olds’ Classics: the Royal Lodge, Cheveley Park and Middle Park Stakes. ⭕ 3.40 Newmarket, Saturday (Cambridgeshire Handicap) STALLS STATS: Any preview of the big handicap looks wasted until we get the draw.
It has been so biased in the last six years, with all winners from between 21 and 29, near side. Here are the results (1-2-3) by stall since 2016:

Winning SPs of 40-1 (twice) and 50-1 suggest the results were as big a shock to connections as they were to punters.
My big hit was in Wissahickon’s year. He was a Daqman Fortune Cookie, so I named him in advance of the race. Then, when the draw was known, I summarised the form for those from stalls 20 to 30 and by sheer good fortune, he got in on 21 and was heavily backed. So we backed him again!
Then on the day I had a single-figure-stalls saver, just in case, but four years later seem to need even bigger odds if the low draw is to be beaten from the middle-to-far side!
Saeed Bin Suroor, who won the race last year, has plenty of entries again, but one with a better chance than his 17.0 offers on BETDAQ is First View.
A winner four times over a mile, stepping up to class 2 the last day with cheekpieces first time, is a half-brother to a 1m 4f to 2m winner.
First View was just out of the first four in the John Smith’s Cup (1m 2.5f) at York in July, fading final furlong, badly drawn on the outer in 22.
We will take just such a draw for Saturday, please! The 1m 1f at Newmarket looks ideal, and the five-year-old is still unexposed after just 10 races in his life.
IT’S IN THE STARS
⭕ 3.27 Beverley Plenty of these sprinters have been kept busy this season including King Of Stars who is overdue a gold after many solid runs this year in some of the biggest sprints in the calendar.
The Mick Appleby trained runner relishes quicker ground and the minimum trip and ran a big race over course and distance last month when third in the Listed ‘Bullet’ behind Tis Marvellous.
That came on the back of a huge effort at York (33/1) where he was pipped on the line by Bergerac in a valuable and competitive Heritage Handicap.
This looks an easier task than he’s faced of late and Ali Rawlinson gets on well with the grey.
Acklam Express has the best chance if official ratings are to be believed and has plenty of Group race form on his CV.
Like King Of Stars though, he has also found a win this year so far elusive and there seems to be some spark missing. He might be one who would prefer the rains to arrive. He’s down in class but trainer Nigel Tinkler is currently 0-18.
Judicial does well here (3-5) but comes into this on a really disappointing effort at York last time out and at the age of 10 might find some of these with a bit more zip.
NORTH SOUTH DIVIDE
⭕ 4.02 Beverley This becomes slightly easier for the remainder after the defection of Runaholic.
It could leave it as a North v South battle between Mawada (Richard Fahey) and It’s All About You (Harry & Roger Charlton).
Mawada’s first two starts look solid enough and she was a good course and distance third last time out to Cell Sa Beela who gave the form a boost when fourth next time out in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
It’s All About You made a pleasing enough debut at Goodwood when third and should improve on that but the Charlton’s are 0-11 with their most recent runners.
IT’S IN THE STARS (AGAIN)
⭕ 4.30 Lingfield Dubai Leader is back after a break but fitness isn’t likely to be a concern for a Team Johnston trained runner.
He showed plenty in his first two starts – finishing third at Ayr before winning at Windsor when stepped up to 1m 2f. I think he’ll be better when stepped even further up.
This doesn’t look particularly competitive however chief Betdaq Betting Exchange rival Believe In Stars could be the one.
Sir Michael Stoute’s runner is also returning after a break. He made his debut in April when sixth at Nottingham in a race that’s working out well – that’s an understatement! The five that finished in front of him have ALL won since.
