TODAY’S PREVIEW: Analysis by form and ratings of the Tingle Creek Chase.

TODAYS’ TIPS: An early NAP on the Lingfield card for Daqman.

TINGLE CREEK RATINGS AND FORM

⚠️ No rain is forecast at Sandown and the track faces a weather reverse: the first meeting there recently was abandoned after three races due to waterlogging; now trainers are worried about dry ground, and watering is taking place daily!

⭕ 2.55 Sandown, Saturday (Tingle Creek Chase): STATS: TRAINER: Paul Nicholls 12, Nicky Henderson 2, one each Henry De Bromhead and Willie Mullins.

RATINGS (last 10)> 169, 166, 158, 166, 169, 161, 175, 163, 169, 167.

176 SHISHKIN (Nicky Henderson) Form after a break 1F11P. Won 11-11 completed hurdles and chases but fell in maiden hurdle at Newbury and pulled up in 2022 Champion Chase, never travelling on heavy (officially soft) ground.

Won all completed starts at Cheltenham and Kempton but just one senior Grade 1, the Clarence House at Ascot in January.

Not raced at Sandown but beat Greaneteen 10 lengths in the Desert Orchid Chase (soft) at Kempton last season.

171 GREANETEEN (Paul Nicholls) Won eight chases, three of them Grade 1 at Sandown including this one last year, with Captain Guinness 5.75 lengths third, and comfortably landed Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter early in November.

164 GENTLEMAN DE MEE (Willie Mullins) Chasing hat-trick in the Spring, culminating in defeat of Edwardstone four-plus lengths in the Maghull Novices at Aintree.

Beaten at Naas in November when odds on for sole senior start when hampered and unseated at the last.

163 FUNAMBULE SIVOLA (Venetia Williams) Won 6-13 chases; runner-up to 8-1-on Shishkin in the 2021 Maghull at Aintree

162 DUNVEGAN (Peter Fahy) 3-13 over fences, two of them at Fairyhouse last winter. Second, beaten 12 lengths in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown in February.

161 EDWARDSTONE (Alan King) Won five novice chases in a row, including the Henry V111 by 16 lengths at Sandown, the Wayward Lad at Kempton and the Kingmaker at Warwick, culminating in the Arkle at Cheltenham, but was beaten in a speed test at Aintree by Gentleman De Mee.

160 CAPTAIN GUINNESS (Henry De Bromhead) Third in both 2021 Arkle behind Shishkin and in Tingle Creek to Greaneteen. Won two small-field Grade 3s since but unplaced at Aintree and Punchestown festivals this year.

PHENOMENAL EARLY BET

⭕ 12.10 Lingfield There’s every chance that the Newmarket class 4 maiden which Phenomenon made his debut in will turn out to be quite smart form. The ‘right two’ finished first and second as the market indicated and Phenomenon was noted as doing some really good work in the closing stages to be beaten four and half lengths into 5th, despite going off at 100/1.

Whatever the value of the form (the front four have yet to reappear) it’s a safe bet that it’s a good deal better than this very ordinary looking class 5 on the all-weather.

Further significant improvement is likely from the Richard Spencer trained runner and he should account for the more experienced pair of Camusdarach and Raintown.

Camusdarach improved a little on his Epsom debut to finish 3rd at Newcastle last time out but was still beaten nine lengths.

Raintown only looks moderate and was slowly away last time out at Wolverhampton. A similar tardy start from stall 11 here could ruin his chance before the race gets going.

Debutant Eloped has attracted some early interest on the Betdaq Betting Exchange. The filly is trained by Hugo Palmer who is 0-10 with his recent runners and as indicated earlier Phenomenon sets the bar quite high for a newcomer to aim at.

PRINCE TO BE CROWNED

⭕ 2.50 Lingfield Capricorn Prince can continue the good recent form of local trainer Gary Moore.

Capricorn Prince runs this course and distance well and a reproduction of his latest effort could easily prove good enough.

He finished second to the well backed Reeceltic last time out but put some good margin between himself and his rivals behind and may just have bumped into one that day.

Long term maiden Pledge Of Peace (0-17) is generally campaigned over shorter distances and was well held by Capricorn Prince when the pair finished 1st and 3rd over 1m 5f here back in March.

MORE FROM MOHATU

⭕ 5.20 Wolverhampton Kevin Stott was in good form here last night getting his maiden 100 up for the season.

He can continue the good work aboard Mohatu who looked pretty clueless on debut and lost a lot of ground when ducking coming out of the stalls.

You can’t read too much into Derby entries these days but he’d need to win this by 10 lengths for those hopes to be maintained. I’ll settle for a shorter margin win!
