MARK YOUR CARD WITH ANOTHER HOT DOZEN: Here’s Part 2 of Daqman’s horses-to-follow guide to Christmas and the New Year: 12 yesterday, 12 today, making up his stars of the future.
LINGFIELD JUMPS: Today DAQMAN focusses on the Lingfield card with four bets including a nap in the opener but also spots a horse trading at 51 on BETDAQ in the final race at Wolverhampton that looks a win and place project.
THE DAQMAN HORSES-TO-FOLLOW CLAN
CLAN DES OBEAUX (Paul Nicholls) There’s another gold cup, called the Caviar, at Cheltenham on Saturday week, target of this Haydock Graduation winner, pipped half a length earlier at Kempton by Whisper, who went down only a neck, giving a stone to the winner in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Trophy.
FOX NORTON (Colin Tizzard) The Punchestown Champion Chase winner continued where he left off by taking the Cheltenham Chase on his reappearance but needs good ground and is one to note for the Spring.
ICE COOL CHAMPS (Philip Hobbs). All options open for now for this staying chaser of the future (dam half-sister to a Welsh National winner) after storming home at Uttoxeter over hurdles. Will his entry in a novice chase at Chepstow on Saturday be taken up?
JERRYSBACK (Philip Hobbs) Related to Celtic Shot on the dam’s side, improved rapidly over hurdles in the Spring, but his Cheltenham entry is the RSA, so watch out for him in a novice chase sooner rather than later.
LE PREZIEN (Paul Nicholls) Placed in two top Cheltenham handicaps this autumn, still has scope for improvement at age six.
MENGLI KHAN (Gordon Elliott) Surged to the front of the Supreme Novice Hurdle market when he scooted clear in Sunday’s Royal Bond.
MIGHT BITE (Nicky Henderson) Twice beat Whisper in the Spring, so basking in that one’s recent exploits but boosted his credibility himself, when not extended to win the Sandown Future Stars a month or so back.
POLITOLOGUE (Paul Nicholls) Ditcheat knows all about Might Bite through the Sandown runner-up, Frodon, and has its own future star, Politologue, rated just a pound behind Might Bite, after taking the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on his reappearance.
SAM SPINNER (Jedd O’Keefe) A £6,000 bargain buy, related on the dam’s side to The Tsarewitch and Gungadu, slaughtered a stayers-hurdle field 17 lengths at Haydock.
SIZING JOHN (Jessica Harrington) A stone rise in the weights with a massive gold-cup hat-trick in the Spring: Irish Gold Cup, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Punchestown Gold Cup.
TOTAL RECALL (Willie Mullins) The Munster National winner looked a monster as he mastered Whisper, the autumn benchmark extraordinary, in the Ladbrokes Trophy. Getting plenty of weight but showing plenty of improvement!
BRAQUEUR D’OR (Paul Nicholls) back to the beginning. This one is out of alpha order but fits nicely after Total Recall. Fourth to that one in the Ladbrokes Trophy, he has shot up 30lb since he started chasing in the Spring.

HOW FAR FOR AR?
1.00 Lingfield A bumper starts the jumps card at Lingfield and it’s the only race of the day on the all-weather track. Ar Mest went into my notebook on debut at Ascot when finishing fifth (beaten less than 10 lengths) to Nestor Park in what looked an above average bumper. He improved as the race went on and should know plenty more about the game today and can strike for locally based Gary Moore with son Joshua riding.
Personal Coach was third on debut at Taunton and clearly has ability but as a general rule of thumb you’d take Ascot form over Taunton on every day of the week that has a ‘y’ in it.
2.00 Lingfield Ex-French soft-ground lover, Tzar De L’Elfe was readied for this with a pleasing run at this track three weeks ago. Should improve and appreciate the longer trip.
3.00 Lingfield Aintree Fox Hunters the long-term target for dual hunter-chase winner in the Spring, Persian Snow, but given an easy introduction here in a veterans’ chase, missing Saturday’s Grand Sefton.
3.30 Lingfield I want to be against the forecast favourite The Game Is A Foot here. He is racing off a career high mark of 107 and whilst winning his last two races easily, one of them a ’novelty’ flat jockeys event, this looks much tougher. Preference is for the top weight Hadfield who was a fair third at Worcester last time out and seemingly revitalised from a spin on the flat course at Kempton prior to that.
4.10 Wolverhampton My Brunette looks very short in the market. She was a 33/1 shot when fourth on debut but beaten over seven lengths and is unproven on the all-weather. Even in a desperately weak event like this I can’t be backing her at odds on.
Assuming it’s the match the betting predicts there’s still one place to be found and without the top two I’d have to be with Compton Brave whose Kempton fourth really doesn’t read so badly in the context of this race. At 4.4 the place on BETDAQ I can keep the ‘stake to win 20’ theme going on the place bet and risk a couple of points on the win market at 51 to win 100. Just in case. Strange things can happen in bad races.
