9-4 WIN IN DAQMAN NAPS STORM: He’s done it again! Daqman yesterday took his amazing naps sequence on to 13 from the last 18 (that’s 72% winners). Nebula Storm (WON 9-4) makes the sequence 111114123131111411, including eight bankers in a row.
5-2 FOR ANOTHER PERFECT DAY: After the nap at Plumpton, Daqman also selected Perfect Pastime (WON 5-2) at Windsor and the two winners produced another profitable afternoon, taking him to five in two days for an overall profit of 37 points.
GO WEST, YOUNG MAN FOR EXETER NAP
2.40 Exeter Philip Hobbs has farmed this race, with form figures over the last nine years of 1012211,and his Hello George is backable this morning at 4.1 in the BETDAQ orange, thanks to a punt on Alcala, an even-money chance for Paul Nicholls who has also won the race twice.
I see it as almost inconceivable (or to put it in BETDAQ terms, 19.5 bar two) that one of the two won’t win. I’m not going to bet long odds-on but take one and save with the other.
3.10 Exeter The famous Paul Nicholls’ breathing ops have transformed so many at Ditcheat. Now he believes that Far West’s wind is right for this chasing debut.
The one-time Triumph Hurdle runner-up has a nine-year-old (Dunraven Storm) to beat and another potential chaser, the appropriately named, Puffin Billy, returning to the scene of a Listed second over hurdles last year.
3.40 Exeter (Best Mate Chase) Pipe, Bowen, Sherwood and Honeyball have an essential ingredient for betting at this time of year. They are in multiple-winning form, where some established yards are still ticking over until the season proper starts in a month’s time.
As De Fer, Sixty Something, According To Trev and Financial Climate all go especially well when fresh.
As De Fer is common to both groups and Anthony Honeyball’s course winner has Denis O’Regan booked, joint favourite early mouse. Honeyball tells the Racing Post that’ As De Fer is in very good form, very fit, very ready. Again that’s something to bet on at the time of year.
FOXY GAMBLE ON AT WOLVERHAMPTON
LINGFIELD A double at Wolver last Thursday, isolated among 27 losers, is all Richard Hannon had to show for Champions Week at Newmarket and Ascot.
And John Gosden has gone 37 losers, with just the winner of a four-runner race marooned in among them. The big guns seem to have run out of ammo.
In fact, with Gosden’s 14-day strike rate so poor (1-34), I shall oppose Taysh (2.30) at Lingfield, not for that reason alone but with breeding and other pointers against him.
Taysh is bred to be a sprinter, yet is stepped up to a mile here. He didn’t settle first time, so the slower pace will be against him. He’s got a tongue-tie on today, which is another worry.
The Hannon horse, Velociter, is by leading first-season sire (Ivawood) Zebedee). He was running on well over a furlong shorter at Kempton a fortnight back.
But Perceus is obviously going for broke in a first-time hood for a stable doing well right now, notably with the price of the season, winning again on Saturday with Cambridgeshire hero Bronze Angel. At 20-1?
Another trainer making a late-season statement is Paul Cole. His current form figures are 2141313, and he has one at each meeting today, Lingfield, Kempton and Wolver.
Pendo (4.30) is unexposed over today’s trip. He’s been a free-going sort over a mile but could be held for a run here, with Sail Home and Glennten likely to take a keen hold.
WOLVERHAMPTON: The signs are that Michael Wigham is pressing the button on Foxy Forever (4.20).
Dropped in grade, hooded first time and with Andrea Atzeni booked, ‘Foxy’ won his maiden at Wolver (albeit then Polytrack not today’s Tapeta).
Paper forecast 16-1 but the money was down early mouse and he’s 7.2 as I write. I missed the big offers but was happy to join in.
KEMPTON: Goes well fresh, all the way winner on the track Mark Johnston style. Sounds like a bet regardless. Tizlove Regardless (8.00), a CD winner already, looks sure to stretch the likes of these under Silvestre de Sousa.
