THE ELUSIVE SELECTION

⭕ 3.05 Musselburgh I was struggling to muster enthusiasm for anything much across the two afternoon cards at Musselburgh and Southwell. I wasn’t sure that I’d want to be backing Barrolo at short odds in the last at Musselburgh after his 4/9 defeat at Catterick last time out and he’s now UP in the weights.

Safest bet could well be Elusive Empire in the maiden. After two moderate starts the penny dropped last time out at Salisbury when he chased home the promising Montauk Point.

He’s up against some serial maidens in Capital Guarantee and Sprezzatura leaving debutant Initio as only realistic danger but there were no major early market positives behind him.

LADY GIGA TO FOLLOW UP

⭕ 6.00 Wolverhampton Penalties are notoriously hard to defy in this sphere but I was taken by the way Bigger Than Giga won at Kempton last time out and she could easily follow up in this company.

Trained by Kevin Philippart De Foy, the filly had previously shown promise on her debut at Lingfield when third – prompting her to start favourite for the Wolverhampton race and she only had to be shaken up to win in nice style. The runner-up from that race shaped OK in a better race at Newbury next time out to give the form a boost.

Tokyo Dreamer is chief market rival on the Betdaq Betting Exchange but is beginning to look a little exposed on now her sixth start and wouldn’t appear to have as much progression as the selection.

The Richard Fahey trained debutant Eminent Jewel came in for some early morning support on Betdaq. The stable are sending out winners, although mainly on the turf, this is only their second all-weather two-year-old runner of the campaign with the first one unplaced.

HAPPY TO MISS EMBARKED

⭕ 7.00 Wolverhampton Embarked heads this market which has to be a worry. He’s now 19 runs without a win and has been sent off favourite in three of his last four races – notably at Yarmouth last time out when a disappointing fourth at 5/4.

Whether those losses will be recouped is questionable – one of the few positives is most of his losing has come on the turf and this is only his third career start on the all-weather.

Bomb Squad is beginning to build up a frustrating sequence himself but in his case he is a previous dual winner and has been running well of late suggesting a similar effort will be good enough to land this modest heat.

His course and distance effort two starts ago reads well. He finished second to San Francisco Bay who has since gone on to win and finish second at Lingfield.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
