MOOR TO COME FROM EARTH MOVER

⭕ 1.30 Newbury Today will tell whether Demachine really is ‘de machine.’ The form book says ‘beat nothing well’ but could do no more than take 2-2 chases comfortably.

Demachine owes his place as market leader to some highflying kites from trainer Kerry Lee about Ladbrokes Trophy and Welsh National as targets next year.

It could be argued for Sevarano, a course winner here, that he has soared 13lb higher than his hurdles rating and that his chase 2-2 was the harder because staged at Sandown and Exeter. That suggests that having 6lb more than anything else in today’s race is not a burden.

Earth Moor, currently on the same rating as Demachine, and Equus Dancer have scored among the lower echelons but Earth Moor seems to be on the move up the ladder, going clear in handicap company the last day.

This is his first race in novice company and, on top of that, is likely to improve. He has 16-time Jim Dreaper winner Merry Gale down the dam’s side and is the one whose price is ‘wrong’ in offers of 8.0 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.

Young Wolf has drifted, presumably because, though consistent, his success has been largely on good ground.

Dickie Diver drops from a Grade-1 novices hurdle to this class-3 limited handicap chase and, as ever, you know that Nicky Henderson can perform magic tricks behind the scenes.

But behind the scenes at Seven Barrows is a possible virus, with a temporary lockdown announced for the yard. We’re told that Altior scoped badly, and don’t forget Epatante was also beaten, so we can’t back Dickie Diver.

I opposed Altior because the training pattern suggested he was not the odds-on shot and, indeed, he drifted to 11-10 until, we’re told, on-course thieves rushed in (all three of them).

Results yesterday also suggest any short price about Dickie Diver is a lay. He was fourth in the Albert Bartlett, but that was a long time ago and the result took a double knocking yesterday when the winner, Minella Indo, and third, Allaho, were faller and 20-lengths fourth in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown.

8.3 OFFER FOR SHARJAH HAT-TRICK

⭕ 2.25 Leopardstown Willie Mullins, 7-10 in this Grade-1 hurdle, has Sharjah going for a hat-trick after stuffing two favourites consecutively in this race, Samcro and Klassical Dream.

But probably Sharjah’s best performance was when Champion Hurdle runner-up at Cheltenham in March.

He’s prepped for this with two runs back and is officially on 164, so 6-7lb clear of Petit Mouchoir, Abacadabras and Saint Roi.

Aspire Tower gets the four-year-old’ allowance, which helped him make all and go clear of Abacadabras at Down Royal but this should be run at a faster pace via Petit Mouchoir, who was second last year.

With Saint Roi only a neck off Abacadabras in the Morgiana (looking unlucky), collateral form says they’re all of a heap.

Just to complicate matters, Saldier, last year’s Morgiana winner without a run, is back fresh again, as a third Willie Mullins runner after (or before?) Saint Roi and Sharjah, who is the race best offer at 8.3 on BETDAQ

⭕ 2.40 Newbury (Mandarin Chase) Copperhead won this for me last year and he went on to take the Reynoldstown in February, Redford Road is expected to improve for the trip and has been steadily backed in the run-up to a moderate renewal: I took 8.1 on BETDAQ.

KING’S QUEEN! THE PRICE IS RIGHT

⭕ 3.15 Newbury (Challow Hurdle) Favourites are 6-9 in this, with last year’s winner, Thyme Hill, currently 1-1 in his enthralling battles with Paisley Park.

Bravemansgame was impressive over the CD here but his winning form suggests good ground brings out his best, and was a drifter this morning.

Mud is meat and drink to Star Gate, Grade-2 winner at Sandown in a race which has produced several Challow scorers.

So, too, has the Cheltenham Grade 2 which this year threw up Does He Know for the resurgent Kim Bailey squad.

But runner-up that day, Wild Romance, is lower down the pecking order at the Skeltons than Wilde About Oscar, who has that ‘could be anything’ look, with his lower-level form possibly worth upgrading.

The Skeltons are on another high after Nube Negra ran away from Altior at Kempton on Sunday.

But the one I like, getting the 7lb mares’ allowance, is the apple of Alan King’s eye, The Glancing Queen, who came good at Warwick the last day. It’s really 5-1 the field and she’s 5.9 on BETDAQ.

⭕ 3.45 Newbury Another Skelton chance, another Warwick winner and another today who is on a lower mark over fences than for his hurdles form. King d’Argent is reckoned worth the nap.

Excelerator Express has a weight pull which should turn over Wetherby form with Finambule Sivola and this softer ground helps one who lacks a bit of pace.
