18 REMAIN IN SUNDAY’S ARC

UPDATE: David Menuisier, who is French, is the only English-based trainer with a declared runner in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with Sunway.

Menuisier, who trains at Pulborough, which was the home of Guy Harwood’s 1986 Arc winner Dancing Brave, started his racing life as assistant trainer to Christiane Head-Maarek, who trained the back-to-back winner, Treve (2013-2014).

Sunway, who was runner-up to Aidan O’Brien’s Los Angeles at only threeparts of a length in the Irish Derby and was placed third in the St Leger (after interference), is likely to be ridden by champion-jockey-elect Oisin Murphy.

Sunway has been 50-1 for the Arc, whereas Los Angeles is around 6-1 this morning.

In addition to Los Angeles, O’Brien has left in Continuous, Opera Singer and Luxembourg, plus as a weather standby, Auguste Rodin, who needs the ground to dry out.

HE LOVES AYR: ROGER THAT!

⭕ 2.50 Ayr Pol Roger loves the Ayr track, though his last form figure suggests he’s gone over the top or too high in the handicap after a fine sequence (11222230) but the ‘0’ was when raised to class 2.

He is dropped back to grade 4 here, with trainer Michael Dods on six winners since the middle of the month. The opposition can’t be trusted.

Beaten a neck at York in July; beaten a neck at Hamilton the last day; both over 1m 4f. That’s the frustration of Jim Goldie’s Soowaih.

Does he want to go up in trip? Not if August form of 00 over 2.5 miles means anything. Ok, then down to 1m 2f? Returns of 4044 read even worse.

His sole success was over a mile on the Newcastle Tapeta last October (0-9 on turf) and you know what I think of horses that have broken their maiden and never won again!

Reyaadah Star is another placed only since breaking his duck and Johnny Ringo is another with poor form on turf, bestat Newcastle.

Spirit Of Aklam’s recent trait (he hung right at Newbury) is talking me out of a bet on this turning left-hand track, though he won twice before that, including here at Ayr.

I can’t stop knocking them, can I (Can’t Stop Now)? And the few I have left include two nine-year-olds: Jewel Maker will find it difficult in this higher grade; Young Fire is up in the ratings, the last rise down to success in an amateurs’ race.

ANGEL’S DELIGHT

⭕ 6.00 Newcastle Just the five runners for this six furlong sprint which might be best left to last week’s course and distance winner Indy’s Angel to defy her 6lb statutory penalty.

She had run well previously on her all-weather debut at Southwell when a close up fifth and definitely built on that effort when sprinting four lengths clear last Tuesday in a race that looked similar to todays in terms of quality.

The main danger and one worth keeping an eye out for on the Betdaq Betting Exchange market is Empowered Queen who is making her handicap debut for Ollie Sangster.

She hasn’t shown much in three starts but is a class dropper and might be better than her official starting mark of 62.

The downside is she’s missed the break in all three of her starts and can’t really be giving weight away in sprints.

GIVING HER A MISS

⭕ 8.00 Newcastle I won’t be in the queue to back Missmimi at short odds. She seemed to need every yard of the 6f trip here last time when winning over six furlongs so makes limited appeal dropped back to five with an extra 5lb to contend with.

Blackcurrent ran out of juice (sorry!) in a similar course and distance event last time out and at eight might just need this after a 203 day break.

I’ll take a chance with Turn And Burn who popped up to win at 22/1 at Lingfield before hitting trouble in running at Bath.

I’m just hoping his starting skills have improved as he can be tardy. However, that’s more than built into his price and there is limited downside playing him here at double figure Betdaq odds.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
