WHICH ARE THE BEST THREE-YEAR-OLDS? Time to check out the stats and the ratings for the King George meeting at Ascot on Saturday. Today: review of the rankings for three-year-old colts and fillies. Then look out on Thursday for Daqman’s ABC Guide to the King George.
NEWCASTLE NAP: On a modest days racing DAQMAN finds a nap in the opener at Newcastle.
FILLIES ARE ALL CLASS THIS YEAR
Forget the alpha males. If the top three-year-old colts took on the fillies, the ‘girls’ with their allowance would surely win.
That’s without any further improvement from Alpha Centauri and Sea Of Class, who have overtaken winners of the English fillies Classics and now stand shoulder to shoulder with the best colts.
There are no standouts this year, as we compare the four Classic winners from England and Ireland, before their generation takes on the older horses in Saturday’s King George.

TREIZE LUCKY FOR SOME
The emphasis is very much on quantity over quality across today’s race meetings.
2.10 Newcastle I would be surprised if Louis Treize didn’t prove good enough to land this after his excellent debut second to Hafeet Alain at Doncaster earlier in the month. He was nibbled at in the market that day suggesting he had been showing plenty at home.
Over the same trip today he should be able to put that experience to good use in a race where none of the debutants stand out much, either on pedigree or in the early market.
Louis Treize’s trainer Richard Spencer is also in terrific form with seven winners from his last 19 runners, the latest of which being his only runner yesterday Stay Classy at Windsor.
The Michael Dods trained Kolossus was weak in the market but showed promise on debut when fifth over course and distance and is entitled to improve as is Swiss Connection who wasn’t beaten far in fifth on his debut at Redcar.
7.30 Nottingham The good news is that this class 4 fillies handicap is probably the best race of the day. The bad news it has attracted just three runners.
It does however give the chance for the Mark Johnston trained Kalagia to confirm Beverley form with the Sir Michael Stoute trained Bedwyyah.
The Stoute filly has a 4lb pull for a four length beating but might struggle as Kalagia looks progressive and she followed up with a smooth win at Bath.
Despite being the oldest filly in the race, Eponina receives weight from the other pair but her 7lb rise in the weights for her Leicester win looks harsh judged by the way she ran at Nottingham last time out when a beaten favourite and she runs off the same mark today.
8.30 Nottingham Flower Power looks an interesting contender in the finale. The mare has been tumbling down the weights (she raced off 79 five starts ago).
She was an eye-catching fourth at Beverley last time out, staying on well at the end of 1m 4f and this extra trip should suit perfectly. She’s a winning hurdler and loves the fast ground.
Affair is the market leader but these marathon trips have not suited her in the past.
