CESAREWITCH WEEK COUNTDOWN STARTS HERE: It’s Cesarewitch week and today Daqman celebrates six consecutive big-race winners from his ABC guides. Here’s how the week’s previews will look:
TOMORROW: The Fillies’ Mile, Dewhurst and Coral Sprint.
THURSDAY: ABC Guide to the Cesarewitch
FRIDAY: Newmarket’s opening day
SATURDAY: Cesarewitch (Newmarket) and Coral Sprint (York) verdicts with ton-up bets and a 500-point double.
ABC GUIDE HITS SIX IN A ROW
Spelling it out. Daqman this week bids for SEVEN winners in a row from his ABC guides. The target is, of course, Saturday’s Cesarewitch and, hopefully, another big-odds hit.
His September success spilled over into October, with the Arc De Triomphe added to the English and Irish St Legers, the Ayr Gold Cup dead-heaters, and the Cambridgeshire.
LEGER DOUBLE: His top two in the Doncaster St Leger ABC were both trained by Aidan O’Brien, who split them between the English and Irish versions. Result: both winners.
AYR GAMBLE: From 357 entries for the Ayr Gold, Silver and Bronze Cups, his top eight in the ABC, published before the races were divided, contained the Gold dead-heaters: one of them was 28-1, the other was the gamble of the race.
JUMPIN’ CATFISH: Then it was the turn of the Cambridgeshire., This time, there were 95 left in before the split between the Silver consolation on the Friday and the big race proper on the Saturday
Wissahickon, the horse called ‘catfish’, topped the ABC, with the big-odds runner-up second in for good measure.
ARC LIGHT: Finally, with 19 left in, Daqman’s ABC gave winner and second in Sunday’s Arc de Triomphe in its top three.
Here are the six hits (published in the column between September 11 to October 4) with their position in his ABC lists:
WON 3-1 KEW GARDENS (English St Leger 1st)
WON 2-1 FLAG OF HONOUR (Irish St Leger 2nd)
WON 28-1 BARON BOLT (dd ht Ayr Gold Cup 4th)
WON 5-1 SON OF REST (dd ht Ayr Gold Cup 6th)
WON 11-1 WISSAHICKON (Cambridgeshire 1st)
2ND 16-1 MORDIN (Cambridgeshire 2nd)
WON 1-1 ENABLE (Arc de Triomphe 1st)
2ND 6-1 SEA OF CLASS (Arc de Triomphe 3rd)
SAVING MERINGUE FOR DESSERT
1.30 Catterick I think Liquid Lunch is worth another try. He was disappointing on soft ground at Carlisle last time out but gets a quicker surface again here and can continue the progression he showed in three starts culminating in a neck second to Fognini at Redcar.
He’s closely matched on embryonic ratings with favourite Summer Blossom but surely has the greater scope.
With form figures of 35352322 good luck if you are backing the filly Summer Blossom today at around 6/4 on BETDAQ. She’s probably a good trade in running as she never gets beaten by far but might well again be vulnerable.
I hope I’ve found the right one with Liquid Lunch but both The Cotswold Wasp (second at Pontefract) and Finch Hatton (beaten at odds-on last time) could also trouble the market leader.
4.25 Leicester My man in the long grass puts in a good report on Verve here and doesn’t think the 392 day will be a negative. Quite the opposite, she has thrived since joining the Henry Candy stable and can start making up for lost time.
She was sent off favourite over course and distance last season only finding a 20/1 shot too good.
This doesn’t look the strongest novice event. Current BETDAQ favourite Eternal Frame was slow to get going at Newmarket last time out when sent off favourite and finished last of the six runners.
With the Haggas stable in such good form it would be no surprise to see Dream Desert improve significantly on his debut but he will need to, as was beaten a fair way when fifth of six at Chelmsford.
6.15 Newcastle Meringue has a double penalty but she shrugged off a penalty to win incredibly well at Lingfield last time out – blitzing her field from the front and she looks worthy of support until beaten.
Main market rival Euro No More is unproven on the all-weather and a bigger threat could be the Marco Botti trained Mulhima who has run respectable thirds in both her starts to date.
