SUPER BETDAQ SATURDAY FORECAST: TRIALS DAY WILL BE ON: Market Rasen – abandoned yesterday – Kelso and Down Royal (today) have all been lost and the jumps frozen out at the start of the week. Catterick and Wincanton tomorrow are in doubt (inspections this afternoon) but a warmer spell will bring the NH sport back in good time for Cheltenham trials day on another super BETDAQ Saturday.
TODAY: We are down to two meetings Southwell and Wolverhampton which needed to pass an 11am inspection to get the green light. Daqman’s NAP runs at Southwell.
CHELTENHAM HERE WE COME..
⭕ 12.40 Cheltenham, Saturday (Triumph Trial) Nicky Henderson has 4-8 winners in this since 2013. Peace And Co (Henderson) and Defi Du Seuil (Philip Hobbs) went on to win the Triumph itself at Cheltenham.
Henderson has just one left in: Heross Du Seuil, 10-lengths Kempton winner, related on the dam’s side to Defi Du Seuil.
Intriguing runner would be Auteuil winner Baladin Du Mesc for the leading French jumps trainer, Gaby Leenders.
⭕ 1.50 Cheltenham, Saturday This Grade-3 chase was the launching pad for Frodon (2018) but Ditcheat ducks it this time around.
Venetia Williams tries for back-to-back success in the race with Cepage, who came back to form at Chepstow the last day.
⭕ 2.25 Cheltenham, Saturday (Cotswold Chase) Frodon stepped up a Grade to win this one the following year (2019), completing a glitterati of stars on parade in the decade, dual winner Many Clouds (2015 and 2017) among them.
Santini (Henderson again) is another to have won at the meeting twice, taking the Ballymore Hurdle in 2018 on the way to last year’s Cotswold Chase win.
Santini is the bookies’ favourite to win it again on Saturday but could face fierce competition from Bristol De Mai (Nigel Twiston-Davies) and Native River (Colin Tizzard).
Neither trainer has done well lately, Tizzard blaming a bug in the yard for some of the worst flops, and Bristol De Mai is the only serious horse flying the flag for ‘Twiston.’
⭕ 3.35 Cheltenham, Saturday (Cleeve Hurdle) Paisley Park goes for the Cleeve hat-trick, after dismissing the new kid, Thyme Hill, in the Long Walk, the pair giving 7lb to the mare Roksana.
Only third that day but she franked the form by blowing out Magic Of Light at Ascot on Saturday.
MAY GIVE ANOTHER CHANCE…
⭕ 2.55 Southwell Maykir was a beaten favourite here last time out when seeking a course and distance hat-trick but didn’t do an awful lot wrong and can bounce back over conditions which he loves.
His winning sequence started on New Year’s Day and then followed up with a smooth success 10 days later.
He found False ID (runs again here) 1/2 length too good last time out but the pair finished five and a half lengths clear of the third and I still believe him to be on a wining mark.
False ID has been well beaten since and is also burdened with a 4lb penalty so that should swing the tables back to Maykir.
HEART SAYS LION IS NAP
⭕ 3.25 Southwell Lion’s Vigil stands out as the NAP on a very tricky Southwell card.
The Richard Fahey trained runner heads the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE market and may well strip fitter for his comeback run after a 180 day break.
In the circumstances he ran well here earlier in the month – second to Straight Ash who is back today but it would come as no surprise to see the 3lb shift in the weights between the pair reverse the form.
Peerless Percy remains a maiden after 10 starts but has some placed form (including here) that would entitle him to pick up a piece of this.
MAJOR CHANCE IN CLOSER
⭕ 7.10 Wolverhampton A Ladbrokes-sponsored seven furlong handicap to close the card – and hopefully the snow will keep away.
Major J has been slowly running into form for Marco Botti and ran well over course and distance two starts ago – despite meeting trouble in the run.
He also showed promise at Kempton last time out and this looks an easier challenge.
DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 4.1pts win MAYKIR (2.55 Southwell)
BET 4.5pts win (nap) LION’S VIGIL (3.25 Southwell)
BET 4.4pts win MAJOR J (7.10 Wolverhampton)
What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
