COUNTDOWN TO TWO NATIONALS: The Flat season is pushed into the background, with an Easter-weekend feast of racing from Fairyhouse, the Irish Grand National coinciding with the Aintree Grand National declarations. Will Daqman be in the money again in his full form and stats service for two Grand Nationals?

DAQMAN AT THE DOUBLE

WATCH THIS SPACE. Daqman is under orders, head down, buried in the form-books, looking for two Grand National winners in one day.

On Easter Monday next week, the Irish Grand National is being staged at Fairyhouse while Aintree Grand National confirmations are made for the following Saturday.

Can Daqman pull off another National double like the bookie-buster of 2016, when he followed trainer Mouse Morris to a 16-1 winner at Fairyhouse and 33-1 shock at Liverpool in the same year?

He’d had the Irish National winner before, notably with Davids Lad (2001 at 10-1) and Butlers Cabin (2007 at 14-1), but Rogue Angel (won 16-1) would prove to be a history-maker when Rule The World (won 33-1) went on to win at Aintree.

Rogue Angel was 21.0 on BETDAQ when he was picked in advance of his victory on March 28 but Rule The World was an incredible 50.0 BETDAQ bet before Aintree 12 days later.

Rule The World was one of four 50-1-plus ante-post Grand National selections by Daqman in the last decade, with three of them placed.

Overall he had eight out of eight placed in eight years (no race in 2020) before his long-term fancy let him down last season.

Aintree Grand National ante-post pick
Unseated MOUNT IDA 2022 (67.0 on BETDAQ)
3RD 15-2 ANY SECOND NOW 2021 (50.0 on BETDAQ)
4th 9-1 BURROWS SAINT 2021 (21.0 on BETDAQ)
3RD 8-1 RATHVINDEN 2019 (15.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 10-1 TIGER ROLL 2018 (17.0 on BETDAQ)
2ND 16-1 CAUSE OF CAUSES 2017 (34.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 33-1 RULE THE WORLD 2016 (50.0 on BETDAQ)
2ND 14-1 BALTHAZAR KING 2014 (39.0 on BETDAQ)
3RD 8-1 SEABASS 2012 (60.0 on BETDAQ)

TIGER STILL THE MASTER

⭕ 5.15 Thirsk I put a line through the earlier races on Thirsk’s opening day of the season – filed in the too hard / nothing standing out department.

This mile and a half handicap isn’t exactly easy with an open looking market on Betdaq Betting Exchange but I see no reason why Fen Tiger can’t resume in the same kind of form he showed last season.

The Julia Feilden trained runner is 122121 from his last six races and relishes give in the ground.

He’s up 5lb to a career high mark but judged by his last winning run in October there still could be plenty left in the locker. He made all that day and won ‘unchallenged’.

He’s run well after a break before and whilst his chance is transparent it sometimes pays to stick to the obvious.

Especially so as his main market rivals all have something to prove. Poster Child (ran well here last year but on good ground and has generally needed the run after a break), Forgetmenotblue (12 race maiden and question mark over stable form) and Socks Off returns to the flat game after an absence of 670 days!

VIEWS ON ZOO

⭕ 6.00 Southwell I’m sticking with the flat on Tuesday as I struggled to spot anything on the afternoon jumps card at Fontwell.

Zoology looks a solid bet in this seven furlong novice event which is a huge climbdown from the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes he contested last time.

The James Ferguson trained runner looked very impressive when winning on debut at Yarmouth and was then thrown into the deep end at Newmarket in the Middle Park for which he was nibbled at in the market down to 11/1.

He didn’t really run his race, losing ground at the start and was still very green which in a way is a positive given there could be further improvement to come this term with him hopefully strengthening up.

The yard are also in good form with two winners from their last five runners and he is taken to get the better of Elwasme who ran two reasonable races at Sandown last season but didn’t appear to improve much on the second start and the Gosden trained debutant Covey who sports the hood on his first start and doesn’t yet have any fancy entries. He also looked pretty weak early doors on Betdaq.

⭕ 8.30 Southwell 5lb claimer Taylor Fisher is 2-5 on One More Dream with both wins coming on the all-weather. This looks another ideal opportunity for the partnership who can see off the frustrating Perfect Swiss who looks in dire need of help from the handicapper.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
