JOIE BUT NOT MUCH JOY: Daqman made it 14 winning bets in 10 days when Kado De Joie (WON 11-8) kept the sequence going at Lingfield but the nap was hampered and the odds-on trebles banker flopped.

MULLINS RAIDER FLOPS: Strangely, that 7-2 on flop was a Willie Mullins raider! Daqman looks at the figures and says, Cheltenham apart, Willie must get on his bike to keep the trainers’ title.

MULLINS MUST GET ON HIS BIKE

There are bets you have every year. The team clear in the Premier League table after Boxing Day matches wins the title. Liverpool have currently won 11 and are four points clear with a game in hand.

What happens in racing is that the teams doing well now – usually Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson – face defeat at the end of the season from a late starter.

So it is again. Top of the table this year – Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton – have shared £2.5m yet the favourite, Willie Mullins, has won only £28,637 at this stage.

The pace is on and the real race is at Cheltenham but are fears of a velodrome finish justified? Willie may again need Liverpool, where he won the Grand National last season.

Daqman will follow the big-money races with form previews in the week and verdicts on the day, starting with the December Gold Cup on Saturday and ending at Liverpool long before the last kick of the Premier League season.

TAREZE TO UPSET THE MULLINS TRIO

⭕ 1.20 Punchestown (Listed Mares Novice Hurdle) Willie Mullins saddles three of the first four in the Betdaq Betting Exchange market and jockey bookings would suggest Hey Sunshine (Paul Townend) is the chosen one but the fly in the ointment to all three might be the Henry De Bromhead trained Tareze who couldn’t have been more impressive than when winning her maiden hurdle at Clonmel in October when she stormed home 27 lengths clear.

She’s fully entitled to have a crack at this, even though her limitations were exposed when pulling up in a Grade 1 at Fairyhouse in March. The break since appears to have done her good and this looks a more realistic level.

Hey Sunshine is unbeaten over hurdles, already showing more than she did in bumpers, winning at Kilbeggan and Downpatrick. She’s going the right way but needs to improve again to land this and she currently holds no big race entries.

It’s hard to split the other Mullins trained pair. Cool Park was left clear at the last to win at Fairyhouse by 18 lengths whilst Femme Magnifique brings the most experience into the race but she hasn’t really built on her Downpatrick win in June and is now back after a break since a soundly beaten fourth at Killarney.

OLIVIA HAS THE WINNING MOOD

⭕ 3.12 Uttoxeter I’m sticking with the mares for this two and a half mile handicap hurdle which concludes the card.

Preference is for Olivia Kate who frankly looked a different horse when coasting home by 18 lengths at Ludlow last month. She had hinted at ability before but her win was pretty much spectacular and has to be supported again, even with an 11lb hike from the handicapper.

The main danger is Tuscan Rose who came back after a 211 day break to finish runner-up at Fontwell in October. The only caveat with her is whether she is better over a three mile trip?

UBIQUITOUS TICKS ALL THE BOXES

⭕ 4.30 Southwell Mr Ubiquitous looks very much the percentage call here over chief market rival Patrol who is proving costly to follow and who has spurned easier chances for a first win.

After three down the field runs (50/1, 33/1 and 40/1) Mr Ubiquitous made no mistakes on his handicap and all-weather debut at Kempton when he went off 5/4 favourite !!

It’s a fair assumption to think he can come on significantly for that run – probably more than enough to mitigate his 5lb hike in the weights.

Patrol was beaten at 10/11 at Wolverhampton last time out. The Racing Post had him down as an ‘eye-catcher’ which is a puzzling comment and scant consolation to odds-on backers.

Formerly trained by William Haggas, he ran well over course and distance in October on his first start for Dylan Cunha but could be up against a fast-improver here.
