MINNIE HAUK ODDS-ON IN THE RAIN: Rain is likely to change the ground for the Irish Oaks on Saturday, for which Epsom Oaks winner, Minnie Hauk, is currently odds-on favourite. In England, Saturday’s Hackwood Sprint at Newbury has been won three years out of seven by a three-year-old. The only one left, Ain’t Nobody, won the Windsor Castle as a two-year-old.
TODAY: A supernap at Downpatrick and a bull’s-eye bet on Betdaq Betting Exchange at Beverley.
DREAM MARK FOR CRYPTO
⭕ 2.10 Nottingham Crypto’s Dream, who won here off 55 last June, came back to form – within a length and a half of the winner – at Yarmouth at the end of last month.
Yet the handicapper dropped him another pound and he gets in here on 49, claimed off in an apprentices’ classified.
RIGHT UP DOUGIE’S STREET
⭕ 5.00 Beverley King Sharja, back-to-back winner here at this time last season, is one of six CD winners in this race.
Tim Easterby has won it twice in the last four seasons but Sunny Orange is a once-a-year winner, unlikely to back up his success of 11 days ago.
It’s not out of the question that Saisons d’Or and Dr Rio will win but they are nine and 10 years old now.
Park Street was third in this race in 2023, having already scored at the June meeting.
Well drawn and on a handy mark now, with trainer Tina Jackson currently 2-4 with 75% of her horses running to form.
To be ridden by Dougie Costello, one of the preferred jockeys in the North and Midlands for Charlie Appleby (they strike at 24% when together).
CLOSUTTON A SURE THING?
⭕ 5.20 Downpatrick Aidan O’Brien produced another exotic two-year-old, the Frankel colt Benvenuto Cellini, to win unchallenged at Killarney yesterday.
Today it’s the turn of his jumps counterpart, Willie Mullins, to give punters a chance of buying money on ‘a good thing’ with a name to remember.
Closutton, named after the renowned Mullins training centre, is related to top-class bumper winners, notably sister to Airlie Beach.
Two quality-bred horses were named after Ballydoyle, the first trained by Vincent O’Brien after being sold to Robert Sangster for a then record 3.5 million dollars, but the son of Northern Dancer was moderate, winning only a maiden at Naas.
A daughter of Galileo called Ballydoyle was second to Minding in the 2016 1,000 Guineas, so a one-two for Adan O’Brien.
TIVA THE DIVA
⭕ 8.00 Thirsk Tiva isn’t getting any relief from the handicapper after her Hamilton win in May but is continuing to run well and should land this five furlong handicap for David O’Meara and Daniel Tudhope.
In pure form terms, her latest effort at Doncaster might have been even stronger than the Hamilton win. She finished a close up third to Alpine Girl doing her best work at the end.
Brazilian Belle also brings solid recent form to the table but can often be awkward at the start and can’t afford to give away distance here.
Marajito came back to form with a decent win at Redcar last time out but the resulting 7lb penalty looks harsh.
