DREAM WEEK OF PROFITS EVERY SINGLE DAY: Leodis Dream (WON 2-1) yesterday gave Daqman a seventh consecutive daily profit, adding up to a whole week of winners listed in his column yesterday, including two 8-1 hits and a 9-2 big-race nap.
DAQMAN OPENS HIS INTERNATIONAL AGENDA: Tomorrow Daqman turns to the international scene, with BETDAQ showing ante-post offers for next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup and with a deluge forecast before the weekend Breeders Cup. Meanwhile, Daqman is at Maisons-Laffitte today with an English raider in mind.
HAPPY MAISONS RAIDER FOR AMY
1.05 Maisons-Laffitte (Prix Miesque) An appropriate time to remember Francois Boutin’s dual Classic winning mare (English and French 1,000 Guineas), because Miesque also won the Breeders Cup Mile (1987-8) back to back.
There’s never been an English winner in the 17 years of this two-year-old fillies’ Group 3 named after her, but that hasn’t deterred Richard Fahey (Amber Spark), Amy Murphy (Happy Odyssey) and Richard Spencer (Stay Classy) from having a go.
While Amber Spark and Stay Classy have done well enough in nurseries, Happy Odyssey stepped up to Listed class on today’s course under today’s rider last month and won her first start beyond 6f.
Collateral form in the summer, when Happy Odyssey was beaten little more than a length by Stay Classy at Windsor, is also a vote for Odyssey, since she is 7lb better off today.
HE’S THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB
1.35 Maisons-Laffitte (Prix de Seine-et-Oise) This column blew its own trumpet after Snazzy Jazzy (Clive Cox) won us the Ayr Silver Cup at 11-1. But that was on heavy ground.
He seemed outclassed in a Listed at Navan, and I can’t find a three-year-old in the roll of honour for this Group 3 sprint at Maisons. The other English raider, Dean Ivory’s Eirene, is also three.
The Right Man reappeared only recently to prep for a repeat in this race, with last year’s second and third now worse off at the weights.
The new kid on the block is Inns Of Court, who has been campaigned mainly at 7f and 1m (second in the Foret). His only race at 6f was over today’s CD at Maisons in July (this level). He won well but it was not a strong field.
DID THEY LEAVE ONE OUT, TOO!
1.00 Fakenham If racing’s authorities had any concern for the punter, there would be a rule that every race of fewer than eight declared would be reopened to get a full complement for a place return on the first three.
My man in the long grass informs me that Starjac is better than the bare form. But, of course, Nick Gifford’s Didtheyleaveuoutto – thought to be a Cheltenham horse before injury last December – is a tough one to oppose, assuming he’s back to anywhere near the full potential suggested by his bumper career.
He’s never raced over hurdles in public and has not been seen on a racetrack for 231 days, so we’ll take him on with a bit of win and place at the 10.0 available about Starjac on BETDAQ but our usual place plunge in these circumstances is made too risky by there being just seven starters not eight; so two places, not three.
1.10 Nottingham It’s not uncommon for a decent two-year-old to be unleashed at Nottingham so we need to be wary of the debutants here, especially the Martyn Meade trained Cadre Du Noir for which the early market signs were positive.
Of the ones who have run, Mubariz drops in class but looks very short and preference goes to Garrison Commander who didn’t do a lot wrong at Salisbury on debut and will appreciate the step up from six furlongs to a mile.
1.40 Nottingham Bobby K is the market leader but has yet to race on grass – all five of his starts coming on the all-weather including two wins.
Michele Strogoff might be the safer play – he usually runs this course well and put in a good effort last time out out at Chelmsford.
