HEY PRESTO! NAPS TREBLE FOR DAQMAN: Five-lengths Lingfield winner Presto Volante (WON 6-4) flew home last night to land Daqman a hat-trick of naps, following Sir John Hawkins (WON 2-1) on Sunday and Madam Quilla (WON 15-8) on the Bank Holiday cards.
165 POINTS PROFIT IN ONE DAY: Daqman was in fantastic form in a five-hour winners spree, which culminated in three out of three in his Daq Multiples. The day’s profit was 165 points, and that’s counting the multiple bets only at SP.
He started the day with a one-two at Redcar: Ingleby Angel (WON 6-1) from Eastward Ho (2nd 5-1)
Then he switched to the jumps at Newton Abbot for Neston Grace (WON 7-2)
If So (WON 7-4) at Lingfield was then pivotal in his doubles and trebles
But the turnkey tip was in the final race there, his nap Presto Volante (WON 6-4).
Neston Grace, If So and Presto Volante gave him three doubles and a treble, worth a total of 112 points at SP.
6.25 Kempton (Betdaq 1st UK Commission-Free-Everyday Handicap) Most runners in this have been on the go all year, with six, eight, even 11 races, in the case of Desert Strike and Where’s Reiley, and Love You Louis hasn’t won here since November 2010.
It all helps lead me to speculate on front-runner Clock Opera, dropping back to the minimum on Polytrack for her first handicap.
Only five three-year-olds have run in this race since 2006, with form figures of 10411. She’s getting 20lb off some of these but was 7.4 on BETDAQ this morning.
6.35 and 8.35 Beverley Ryan Moore catches the bus to Beverley for the one ride on Defendant, who should keep my nap sequence going on a tricky day.
When I get doubles and trebles up, I always go in again the following day – a bit like a jump jockey riding for a fall to get it over with – but I really do fancy Aficionado (8.35) stepped up in trip for his first handicap.
7.25 Kempton (£200 Free Bets At Betdaq/British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes) For some reason top yards target this maiden for first-time-out fillies: Prescott (sorry, Sir), Cole, Gosden and Varian have won in its four seasons.
Roger Varian (Princess Noor) and Sir Mark (Bewitchment) are here again, and the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, Princess Noor – well bred for this – looks the one.
She and Manderley have entries in the big sales races and would have to perform well here to stand any chance.
7.35 Beverley (Hilary Needler Trophy) The North has kept this at home throughout the last decade and once again the big Newmarket and Lambourn yards have put up the ‘not interested’ sign.
One secret of success is the draw: stalls 1 to 4 have found it impossible in the last decade, and double figure fields have gone to stalls 15, 12, 5, 13, 7, 6, 7, 9 and all winners in its recent history bar the one in stall 5 came from 6 or higher.
Six winners were within four of the highest stall, as are Intense Feeling, Mops Angel, Ventura Mist and Blockade which suggests that James Tate with Blockade has a big shout for the South.
Up to the 4.30 at Leicester yesterday, the Tate yard at Newmarket had every one of his runners in the frame in the last fortnight, with form figures of 3212342.
Blockade only just hung on at Wolver so this stiff Beverley minimum is a concern, though she should have improved after only three starts.
In fact, fillies step up to win this after just one or two appearances, and Intense Feeling (Limegrove, too) looks exposed.
Iseemist didn’t beat much at Goodwood but came from a race at Bath won by one of the top juveniles seen so far, Beldale Memory, powerful winner of a York Listed at the Dante meeting.
Similarly, Mops Angel, a winner at Pontefract, came from the Brocklesby (fourth); first and second have won since. She’s by the flying Piccolo, sire of fast-ground flying machines Winker Watson, La Cucaracha and Tiddliwinks.
Ventura Mist already needs further and Tim Easterby has won with only one of 35 starters in the last week. I’ll go for ‘Angel’ to mop up this battle of front-runners with a late swoop.
7.55 Kempton (Betdaq Customers Commission Free 1st Month Handicap) Some of these are hard to win with: Romeo Montague and Spifer have scored only once in more than two years; Layline has won just once on turf since breaking his maiden in 2009.
English Summer looks fully exposed, 22lb higher than for his last win on turf at Lingfield 12 races back in September.
Fennell Bay had to be dropped to class 4 to regain the thread of his good early summer of 2012 and he’s now on a higher mark than he’s ever won off.
But, of the other four-year-olds, you have to worry that Bishop Roko has not been since his debut win a year ago.
So maybe the race is best left to Expert Fighter. Though he’s been off for a while, the stable is in top form, with seven successes in 10 days and 16 out of 20 in at the finish (in the first five).
Expert Fighter took apart a small field like this at Newmarket last summer, inspiring connections to aim a grade higher, without success. Back at his level here with another small field to dominate.
8.25 Kempton (Winners Are Welcome At Betdaq Handicap) A terrific little contest, all previous winners barring Living Desert but he was highly tried as a juvenile, including a Coventry Stakes run behind Dawn Approach. Three-year-old handicaps are tough and it’s a race I’ll just watch.
