NOW IT’S SIX BANKERS IN A ROW: Daqman landed his sixth successive winning banker yesterday, Shakopee (WON 8-13), which put his naps on three out of four (9 out of the last 13 all told), with the results as follows: 1111141231311. The maximum-stakes bets were:
WON 4-6 BRAVO ZOLO
WON 1-4 GERMANY CALLING
WON 4-11 HIGH SECRET
WON 4-6 CONVEY
WON 5-6 SOUTHFIELD THEATRE
WON 8-13 SHAKOPEE
DOUBLE-FIGURE BETS FOR DAQ CARD: Today Daqman follows the jockeys’-title race. Richard Hughes takes a lead over Ryan Moore into a double stint, starting at Lingfield, where Hughes can land a banker. But the BETDAQ card tonight has two double-figure Daqman bets.
SARSTED BANKER IN HUGHES STREAK
Hughes 11 mounts, Moore 10. That’s the line-up today after Richard Hughes last night put daylight between himself and Ryan Moore, taking a four-winner lead.
The 21-rides title battle will rage for almost eight hours at Lingfield this afternoon and on Kempton Park’s BETDAQ card tonight.
The feature race at Lingfield (4.10) has class-2 quality, so you should be able to trust the horse with your money. But which horse?
Anglo Irish is stepping up in grade but two that have finished in the frame behind him have gone on to make the successful leap to this level.
Arab Dawn has already failed to make the step up, though the return to Polytrack and today’s trip may both be helpful. Moore’s mount, Daydreamer, loves the track but was behind Invasor Luck on the last day. Scallop is unexposed at the trip.
But the main threat to Anglo Irish may be Serena Grae, a big price at BETDAQ offers of 10.5, as I write. Likes to get on with it and fights back when headed (or should I say ‘if’ headed).
Hughes can start the day with a banker. Sarsted (1.30) has plenty going for him, with future winners in second and fourth when he was third at Newbury.
But, equally important, the rest of the field has very little going for them, firstly in that most of the other yards represented have very few two-year-old winners and the main threat in the early-mouse market is now a non-runner.
NOBLEST CAN CAUSE DAQ-RACE RIPPLE
6.45 Kempton Park (Betdaq £30 Free Bet Maiden Fillies’ Stakes) Those bred for AW in this field are Apache Storm, Coursing, Engaging Smile, Noblest and Royal Silk, with Noblest’s stable having far and away the most two-year-old winners.
Noblest’s sire, Pivotal, has a mighty AW record and she is related to a Group-1 winner and a 95-rated Polytrack winner. Noblest is the mount of Ryan Moore.
Trainer William Haggas could produce this one to win first time, though the form of Richard Hughes’ ride, Raspberry Ripple, rated on 82, is collaterally well connected.
Raspberry Ripple was third at Salisbury to Fadhayyil and Black Cherry, before Fadhayyil ran second in the Group-3 Rockfel Stakes. Earlier at Newbury, Black Cherry had finished third just behind the Group-3 placed Zifena. The winner was recently only a couple of lengths off first place in the Oh So Sharp Stakes (also Group 3).
You should also check Slovak (word play intended) in the BETDAQ orange but, unless a gamble on one of the dark horses materialises, I’m convinced that I already know the one-two.
7.15 Kempton Park (Betdaq £200 Games Bonus Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, Division 1) Hana Lina, Jazzi Top, Makramah and Wild Storm should be suited by AW surfaces on breeding.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Hana Lina. Related to a Cheveley Park winner, she was keen and spooked first time out. A prominent position in the BETDAQ orange will suggest that she is sorted for this second run and would be dangerous.
Jazzi Top, half-sister to six-time winner Izzi Top (including Group 1), was also green first time on a racecourse and has that ‘could be anything’ look on breeding.
In fact, this race might throw up a very special filly, with several others well related, but Jazzi Top was my early play.
7.45 Kempton Park (Betdaq £200 Games Bonus Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, Division 2) AW-sired here are Ershaadaat, Merritt Island and (potentially, from a small sample) Ninepins and Eastern Romance.
Moore may continue his fightback on Zari, very well bred overall and with a solid second over course and distance already on her CV. Hughes ride for Team Hannon, Ninepins, was a lonely dog on a raft this morning, drifted right out to 16.0, so the danger may be Rock Kristal, first-time hooded. I didn’t have a bet, feeling that something might emerge nearer the time of the race.
8.15 Kempton Park (Download the Betdaq+App Maiden Stakes) More maidens but probably not Moore’s maiden. His mount, Dianora, was another on the move over the betting weir this morning, seemingly not fancied.
There was no money for Kalaatah but that’s not always the kiss of death for a debutant Godolphin runner, and they also have Viceroyalty running for their team.
Ghany (interference at Epsom) and Rembrandt Van Rijn (unseated at Wolverhampton with race at his mercy) were both unlucky in their last races. Ghany looks best.
8.45 Kempton Park (Betdaq 50% Commission Refund/Choose EBF Fillies’ Handicap) The Tawteen situation is one of the trickiest at this level. You can’t really trust any hors on just one run, albeit a winning one. And the added question-mark here is that Tawteen won on the new Tapeta at Wolverhampton. Will the form translate to Polytrack?
The early-mouse orange says that Ryan Moore and Perfect Persuasion represent the main danger but both have high draws and, while Tawteen is still an unknown, Perfect Persuasion and many others in this field look exposed.
I was tempted by the orange glow of 13.0 Artistic Charm, who has been aimed much higher than the level of this race but had steering problems in the summer. David Simcock has given her a break and she has a nice draw in stall 3.
