TWO 9-POINT BETS IN DAQ MULTIPLES: Daqman is looking for winners in the forecast sunshine at both Catterick and Ffos Las, with two nine-pointers and a win-and-place bet with 20.0 BETDAQ offers, though trained by Nicky Henderson.
DOUVAN DOMINATING TINGLE CREEK: Daqman spots a clash of top novice chasers in the Henry V111 Chase at Sandown on Saturday as he lines up his Fortune Cookies and Preview Horses for the weekend, with Douvan frightening of the Tingle Creek field.
CUDJA BACK THIS ONE TO BEAT ALTIOR?
Heads will roll! Coincidentally, the Henry V111 Novices Chase at Sandown on Saturday has six contenders for a race which has thrown up stars like Somersby and Al Ferof in recent years.
It features an old-firm clash between Nicky Henderson (Altior) and Paul Nicholls (Marracudja). One of these is the likely lone survivor for the Cheltenham Festival as the other Henry V111 heads roll.
With five winners in the bag already, Fortune Cookies followers will be rooting for Marracudja, bidding for a hat-trick and already a winner at Cheltenham on the last day.
Altior, who has seen his Supreme Novice Hurdle runner-up, Min, launched successfully over fences, a 10-lengths winner at Navan on Sunday, himself made a winning steeplechase debut at Wetherby.
Having ‘forgotten’ my own 12-1 Hennessy-previewed Empire Of Dirt, I am listing the Preview Horses in my list of Fortune Cookies that are scheduled for a busy weekend:
Asthuria (Fortune Cookie) 1.50 Thurles tomorrow
Dodging Bullets (Fortune Cookie) Peterborough Chase, Huntingdon, Sunday
Douvan (Fortune Cookie) Tingle Creek Chase, Sandown, Saturday
It’s A Freebee (Fortune Cookie) Wetherby, Saturday
Marracudja (Fortune Cookie) Henry V111 Novices’ Chase, Sandown, Saturday
More Of That (Fortune Cookie) Peterborough Chase, Huntingdon, Sunday
Peace News (Preview Horse) Royal Bond Novice Hurdle, Fairyhouse, Sunday
The Young Master (Fortune Cookie and Preview Horse) Becher Chase, Aintree, Saturday
Vroum Vroum Mag (Fortune Cookies) Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, Fairyhouse, Sunday
CLUES ALL POINT TO PROFESSOR PLUM
A sunny day forecast at both Jumps meetings. So theoretically it’s plain sailing this afternoon after yesterday’s cards survived a series of inspections.
Notice again at Lingfield yesterday that recent winners all failed, and form-figures for the successful six (here are their last two races) were 20, P6, 02, 00, 44, 02.
But, apart from Darebin at 12-1, the punters knew: SPs were 10-11, 7-1, 11-10, 9-2 and 6-4. Moral: keep your Daq up all day or, at least, check it near the off and bet the fancied horses as well as your morning pick. I can do nothing about that in this column; I sink or swim by the following:
1.00 Catterick Conditional jockeys must win two races here, with the opener divided into two divisions. Four of the claiming riders have chances of a double.
Rose Dobbin and Lorcan Murtagh scored as a team on Saturday and an additionally clue – their horse has won two bumpers – gives me plenty of rope in my study to plump for Professor Plum (12.5 on BETDAQ for the 1.00 race) on his handicap debut.
2.00 Catterick Similarly, Lawney Hill is 1-1 here and she persuades Andrew Thornton to come up to Catterick for one ride: they team up with Great Link (11.0 in the BETDAQ orange). Has won four times on good ground.
3.00 Catterick Alan King usually avoids the A1 like the plague. His one wagon to roll this way in five seasons contained a winner. Today he travels up with FOUR horses.
We can’t be sure that French Flat scorer Fidux is ready to roll; Tara View (2.30) will be odds on, and Skeleton Bob (3.30) ran yesterday, so my preferred of the quartet is dual hurdles winner Laissez Dire (3.00) who gets the allowances as a four-year-old in this beginners’ chase.
20.0 TOWERING PRICE FOR HENDERSON
1.20 Ffos Las We are warned by Nicky Henderson that Tower Of Allen is ‘miles better than the form shown’, so 20.0 in the BETDAQ orange looks tempting, with Nicky’s record 39% (7-18) in hurdles races here.
1.50 Ffos Las Rebecca Curtis, leading trainer at Ffos Las, has used Jonathan Moore to great effect. They also have a 39% strike rate (also 7-18), and Truckers Glory was impressive on the course last month.
2.50 Ffos Las Miles To Milan is another ‘hidden horse’ who should win a handicap soon but he usually needs a bog to show his best.
Suoer Sam also needs some rain, and the one to be on on a sound surface is Southport, an easy winner at Market Rasen last month and runner-up at Ffos Las on the last day.
3.20 Ffos Las Another who acts on the ground and is taking on soft-ground sorts, Copper Birch is twice a winner at Ffos Las and recently took a Hereford conditional for Cian Maher. That’s where I came in.
DAQMAN’S BETS (staked 1 to 9 for strength)
BET 1.75pts win and place PROFESSOR PLUM (1.00 Catterick)
BET 1pt win and place TOWER OF ALLEN (1.20 Ffos Las)
BET 7pts win TRUCKERS GLORY (1.50 Ffos Las)
BET 2p[ts win and place GREAT LINK (2.00 Catterick)
BET 8pts win (nap) SOUTHPORT (2.50 Ffos Las)
BET 9pts win LAISSEZ DIRE (3.00 Catterick)
BET 9pts win COPPER BIRCH (3.20 Ffos Las)
DAQ MULTIPLES: 3 x 2pts win doubles and 1pt win treble SOUTHPORT (2.50 Ffos Las), LAISSEZ DIRE (3.00 Catterick), COPPER BIRCH (3.20 Ffos Las)
