GRANDEUR A CONFIDENT GOODWOOD NAP: A Daqman manoeuvre with the Haggas runners yesterday produced enough from Our Channel (WON 2-1) to pay for the day. Now for Grandeur, a confident nap at Goodwood.
QUEST FOR A ‘BIG OFFER’ ON THE BETDAQ CARD TONIGHT: Daqman takes 21.0 and 7.8 (a ‘big offer’ on an improver called Quest) on the Kempton Park card tonight, with four races BETDAQ sponsored.
3.05 Goodwood The favourite has never won this.. and today’s morning market leader has all the attributes of another loser!
Gospel Choir has been losing favourite in his last two races spaced over a year but the handicapper has dropped him only a pound, and he has to give weight to the rest of the field.
If he is to be beaten in a typical Goodwood tactical race, I can see it being Pearl Castle, fast enough to win on the course over 10 furlongs but saved up for an autumn campaign over longer distances on an easy surface.
3.40 Goodwood A race dominated by Godolphin (six wins in the decade) and Quick Wit – dropped from Group level – could be hard to beat, if he takes to this unusual track: his success has all been on left-handed courses so far.
Gabrial, Making Eyes and Rewarded (CD) have all won at this Listed level but the race surely belongs among Brown Panther, Grandeur and Sugar Boy, all three dropping down from Group level.
Unless Brown Panther has the pace he needs, doesn’t get left behind, and can get them all off the bit up the final climb, the Goodwood Cup (2m) winner will be done for speed. A lot of ‘ifs’ there.
The drying ground favours Grandeur and he won over CD as a handicapper before going on to Group-race success in America and a near miss at home recently, runner-up to Eclipse third, Mukhadram.
Sugar Boy, who likes plenty of cut, won the Sandown Classic Trial but was 30-lengths last in the Irish Derby and much of the early-season Classic form has proved a let-down, including the Epsom Derby.
4.15 Goodwood The local former Harwood, now Perrett, stable targets this race, as you’d expect. The Perrett pair has not much form to show for this level, but Harwoods Star has needed this right-handed track and was worth a pound at 11.0 on BETDAQ this morning.
Sweet Deal ran here in August as if he needed to drop back a furlong; so he does, but may need more give in the ground. It’s the right way round for Stiff Upper Lip and Deserted may improve.
5.55 Kempton (£500 Free Bets At Betdaq Maiden Stakes) Roll up, roll up! Get your free bets ‘ere! Not from the eponymous Sydney James you wouldn’t!
And trusting the same stable’s 300,000-guinea buy, Touzr, has no foundation on form, and he’s the seeming Richard Hannon second string on jockey bookings.,
The smart pedigree is Mushir’s, and he stands out in this field, as an entry in the Middle Park Stakes, challenged only by Jazz in the morning BETDAQ market. Jazz looks as exposed as Lady Gaga and has not yet found a winning tune, albeit raced at a higher level.
6.30 Kempton (Betdaq The Sports Betting Exchange Median Auction Maiden Stakes) Another maiden of mystery. They’re all dark horses bar four exposed, of which only the grey Vastly has received market support at the time of writing.
Surely something will come out of the Kempton woodwork, or more likely scrape the paint on the plastic, from a better draw than he has, wide out in 13.
Another grey, You Look So Good, and Havelovewilltravel (Ryan Moore booked) get weight from the others as three-year-olds, and one of them is likely to score.
7.30 Kempton (Betdaq 1st UK Race Commission Free Handicap) Interesting jockey bookings: Ryan Moore for the French import Uphold, Richard Hughes for a long-term absentee Bilidn, Paul Hanagan for Michael Dods, making the 500-plus-miles round trip from Durham with Muharrer.
There’s not much between Qanan and the front-runner Modernism on Lingfield form recently, and the same applies to Scottish Star and Uriah Heep on their running at today’s track nearly three weeks ago.
Any one of the market’s leading half dozen could win but I’ll play a wild card and assume that (at 21.0 as I write) Bilidn is fit enough to at least get a place.
8.00 Kempton (Winners Are Welcome At Betdaq Handicap) A race of winners, best of the evening and a contender for best of the day.
Yet the morning market says it’s all over bar the shouting as Cat O’Mountain passes the past first, the rest nowhere. But there are too many imponderables to take less than 2-1 about him, despite his impressive course win.
First of all he has to give weight to the 19lb-improver-since-July, Marju’s Quest. Second of all, he has another three-year-old lurking low in the weights, Vital Evidence, a Stoute, reappearing after being gelded.
Not to mention a Prescott (Savanna La Mar) dropping down from the pattern and the consistent Ningara, who has raced in class 2. I’ll have my pound on Marju’s Quest, a big offer at 7.8 to continue up the ranks.
