BALLYDOYLE COLTS: Daqman continues to check out the Ballydoyle star juveniles with the focus on the colts today.
IS HE NEXT BEST-YET COLT?
Lion among colts? Daqman is checking out Ballydoyle’s latest boast of a sensational two-year-old crop, one among them already favourite to be a Classic star of 2025.
Yesterday he listed the Aidan O’Brien fillies targeting the Group-1 Moyglare. Whether they run in that race or not, they usually represent his best on breeding and potential.
The same applies to the colts entered in the Dewhurst. Here’s how they stand right now:
🏇 THE LION IN WINTER Sea The Stars out of a Lope De Vega mare, could run next in the National Stakes or the Royal Lodge.
He’s 2-2; winner of the Acomb at York showing surprising speed for one bred to get 1m 4f. Favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and Derby.
🏇 CAMILLE PISSARRO Beaten half a length by Babouche in the Anglesey (see Whistlejacket) but only 6th behind Cool Hoof Luke in the Gimcrack last week.
🏇 DELACROIX Dubawi colt, related to stayers. Won his maiden at the Curragh but still very green; beat another Dubawi, stablemate Acapulco Bay, who is also related to stayers.
🏇 OFFICER Another Dubawi, out of Group-1 winner Hydrangea (by Galileo), already looked professional when winning his sole start at the Curragh on Saturday. Stablemate Thrice (blinkered) was third.
🏇 HENRI MATISSE 3-3, all at the Curragh, and including the prestigious Railway Stakes; related to winners up to a mile.
🏇 IDES OF MARCH likely fast sort for the Middle Park after impressive change of gears to beat s ablemate Monumental at the Curragh.
🏇 PUPPET MASTER Camelot colt, looked very professional when winning four lengths at Galway.
🏇 WHISTLEJACKET 3-5, among them the July Stakes and the Prix Morny, but in between he was turned over at odds on by the filly Babouche (Ger Lyons; see yesterday’s rankings).
The third horse home was Arizona Blaze, earlier third to Henri Matisse in the Railway Stakes and last week beaten a head in the big-field Sales race at York.
*Every year Daqman rates his first six colts and fillies from all stables as the best of the season. How many O’Brien colts and fillies will take high rank? Watch this space.
I DON’T WANT PROFIT
5.30 Catterick Profiteer looks like being sent off the Betdaq Betting Exchange favourite for the third time in a row and for his supporters it’s rapidly becoming a case of ‘system working well, please send more money’.
He’s certainly consistent but I don’t like a horse heading up the weights without winning and I fear he might land the BFT (beaten favourite treble).
I’d rather play a couple in the race at bigger odds and I’m keen on both Gis A Sub and Howzak – both previous winners over today’s six furlongs.
The ease in ground should again help Gis A Sub who was successful over good to soft at Ripon last month and also shaped well with a solid third in a better class race at Nottingham last time out. Off the same mark here he has been given every chance.
Howzak has a similar profile – dropping down a class level on the back of a solid run – in his case a third to Vape at Chepstow and he has previously handled cut in the ground well.
GOING DOWN LIKE A LEAD BALLOON
7.00 Kempton Leadman is struggling to get his head in front (form 22/2-2) and has been a beaten odds on favourite in all three of his last races. The last two have come at the same class 5 grade he is in tonight and Andrew Balding’s runner makes limited appeal against the potentially progressive Cognisance. I was surprised to see the morning Betdaq market favouring Leadman.
Cognisance won really nicely at Redcar on debut in a race where there was considerable distance between her rivals at the line.
Trainer William Haggas also has her entered up at Salisbury on Friday and looks keen to get another run into her. She looks a nice prospect and is napped to remain unbeaten.
TWO APEEL HERE
8.30 Kempton This might well prove much better than the official class 5 level it is tagged.
Felicity makes the market for us and the Wathnan Racing owned filly is fully entitled to improve on her winning handicap debut last time out when she narrowly beat Five Winds at Lingfield. She’s up 4lb though and her previous form is quite modest considering the high profile connections.
The Amy Murphy trained War Bride has only finished out of the first two once in five starts on the all-weather and brings solid form and experience to the table. She arrives on the back of another good run at Windsor on the turf and the handicapper continues to be lenient with her.
Even allowing factoring in that Andrew Balding’s Apeeling has yet to try the all-weather she looks massively overpriced. Three starts ago she was competing in a class 2 at York and since then she finished a good third in a class 4 at Ascot. That could easily prove strong enough form and I want to keep on the right side of her.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
