JUMP START: Doncaster’s card on Wednesday needed to pass two inspections after overnight frost but goes ahead alongside Ludlow this afternoon with an evening all-weather card at Kempton.
CHELTENHAM ENTRIES UP: The decision to change the National Hunt Chase, Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase and the Golden Miller at the Festival into handicaps appears to have worked with the course reporting increased levels of initial entry.
KEEPING IT COOL
⭕ 5.03 Doncaster A race that has taken on a completely new look and feel given the defection of both Pilgrims King and Robins Field.
It might now open the door for Coolmoyne on his first start back since wind surgery. There’s no doubt he is lurking on a competitive handicap mark and whilst we are taking a chance the surgery has a positive impact, you would be taking a considerable chance too on those at the top of the market for other reasons.
At an age of eight, the ‘youngster’ of the party Bravethewaves is out again quickly having not fired at Musselburgh on Sunday.
He might be better judged on his previous Catterick win where he popped up at 20/1 but he doesn’t jump with any fluency and the Doncaster fences represent a fair test in that department.
Valence d’Aumont was an all out Catterick winner last time out but doesn’t make much appeal off a 3lb higher mark.
SAM LOOKS SUPER
⭕ 5.13 Ludlow Trainer Neil Mulholland has scored with four of his last 18 runners all of which were prominent in the market and he can add to that tally with Super Sabre Sam.
The six-year-old is down a notch in class, but racing off the same mark as he was at Windsor last time out when a very creditable third to Guard Duty. He wasn’t without his supporters that day either having been backed down from 40/1 to 16/1.
This doesn’t look a tough heat and he is preferred to Saunton Surf who took a really heavy fall at the last at Ffos Las last time out and would be best watched today.
At bigger odds on Betdaq Betting Exchange Whatsupwithyou (the only course and distance winner in the race) is included given he has hinted at a return to form.
He is another coming from a stable in good form (Ben Pauling 5 winners from last 22) and has dropped in the weights – getting close now to his last winning mark.
HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO
⭕ 8.00 Kempton Another evening of rider restricted races – this time at Kempton where they host nine races.
There are a couple of short priced debutant favourites on the card – good luck if you get involved with those.
Safest proposition could be Local Hero who is 3-3 at the Sunbury venue and is taken to follow up on his win over this trip off a 4lb higher mark.
