14/1 TREBLE: Daqman stuck to his winner finding agenda yesterday with THREE WINNERS OUT OF THREE for a 14/1+ treble. Better of course if you took the Betdaq XSP!

In time order:

WON 100/30 PARNELL STREET
WON 5/6 LIKEALOT (nap)
WON EVENS UP THE AGENDA

KING OF TRAINERS ACCORDING TO DAQMAN: Who was the greatest trainer of them all? As Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott do battle in Ireland, and Mullins gets all set to best Dan Skelton again in England, the fuse of the great debate has been lit by Elliott. Now Daqman has his say.

THE MAN FOR ALL SEASONS

ONE swallow doesn’t make a summer; nor, in the Gaelic equivalent, does one trout make a multitude.

Ethical Diamond gave Willie Mullins his first victory in the Breeders Cup world championships, adding to Gordon Elliott’s conviction in the Irish Press that his ‘amazing’ rival is ahead of O’Brien as the all-time great trainer.

It would be unfair to speculate that Elliott makes this obeisance as the man who has finished second to Mullins on 13 occasions in the Irish Jumps championship.

But Elliott is not putting him ahead of Aidan O’Brien, the leading Flat trainer of the 21st century; no, he enthrones him over and above Vincent O’Brien.

Vincent – no relation – was top man over jumps then on the Flat in an unbroken win span of 40 years in the top flight.

Before we confine him to history on any man’s say-so, or declare ‘jumps racing has changed out of all recognition’ as an excuse either way, let’s look at his record. Just the jam not the bread and butter.

JUMPS: Three consecutive Grand Nationals, three consecutive Gold Cups, three consecutive Champion Hurdles, to mention only a few, as they say.

FLAT: 13 Guineas in England and Ireland, 13 Derbys, 6 Oaks, 12 St Legers, 3 King George, 3 Arc de Triomphe. Oh, and a Breeders Cup mile.

Willie has pulled plums from the Flat orchard, in the Ebor for instance with Absurde and the very same Ethical Diamond.

And he has been more than once urged, with potential backing not just words, to switch to the more lucrative Flat.

Until he does so and dominates the Classic scene, or until Aidan trains a string of Cheltenham Festival winners, they can only fill the places behind Vincent O’Brien.

MORRO FOR MOORE

⭕ 2.00 Lingfield Winter Oaks Trial Ryan Moore is back in the saddle at Lingfield today and should be nicely warmed up for his ride here on Morrophore after his first two rides – both hot favourites.

Morrophore has an outstanding chance and is probably best judged on her Ascot run in May when coming nicely clear to land a class 4 handicap.

Trained by the Gosdens, she was then stepped up two grades at Newmarket last time out when staying on into fourth having been tardy at the start. The handicapper has kept her on the same mark and with proven all-weather form on her CV she should prove hard to beat.

The Betdaq Betting Exchange market says that True Colours (winner of a class 5 at Wolverhampton last time out) and Winter Flower (Newcastle class 5 winner who could still offer more) are the dangers but both are unproven at this level and might just come up short.

BAY IS NO LAY

⭕ 3.05 Lingfield Goldmoyne is very short here – too short in my opinion. He let supporters down on stable debut at Newcastle last time out when he was sent off favourite. The run was good enough in third but as class 6 events go this looks a tougher contest.

I much prefer the chances of the bang in form mare Lahina Bay who has a good chance of landing the hat-trick despite the 5lb hike in the weights. She won a better race over course and distance here last week when she was sent off at 18/1 despite winning her previous outing at Bath.

WAITING FOR THE BILL

⭕ 8.10 Kempton I’m happy to wait for the final race at Kempton for today’s nap. Wyld Bill completed a demolition job when winning by 13 lengths at Lingfield last time out and is hardly going to be stopped by the resulting fixed 5lb penalty.

Trainer Denis Quinn is clearly striking again before the handicapper has his say and you can bet it will be a lot more than a 5lb hike! A solid nap.
