ALL-WEATHER SHOW: The all-weather keeps the show on the road again today with meetings at Lingfield (start 12.35pm) and Kempton (5pm).

PROSPECTS MIXED: A resumption of jumps racing seems likely for later in the week but it’s hard to predict where. Ffos Las and Taunton have signs of optimism for Thursday’s cards.

KEMPTON DOUBTS: Looking further ahead the big race card at Kempton is already under threat. Featuring the Silviniaco Chase and the Lanzorote Handicap Hurdle the fixture is in trouble according to clerk of the course Barney Clifford who said: “At this precise moment we’re unraceable. We’re frozen solid after three consecutive nights of frost and -6C air temperature, but we’ve been colder than that on the ground and temperatures haven’t risen above 2C in three days.”.

RAJ THE BETDAQ VALUE

⭕ 1.35 Lingfield Despite the field of just five (It’s Showtime is a non runner) this looks quite trappy but there is a spot of value on the Betdaq Betting Exchange in the shape of the Chris Gordon trained Rajeteriat who brings the best recent form to the table.

His course and distance second under today’s pilot Josie Gordon reads well in the context of this race and the winner of that race Sam’s Xpress has gone on to win again since.

Gogo Yubari was heading the morning market. She goes well here and won over C&D two starts ago but is now 3lb higher. She’s been kept busy at the moment and was down the field in a similar event at Southwell on Sunday.

Harry Brown might be a bigger danger as he is a class dropper but he also drops back in distance and that doesn’t immediately look a positive move to me.

THAT’S THE SPIRIT

⭕ 2.35 Lingfield Plenty of handicap debutants here including likely market leader East India Breeze whose form to date hardly leaps off the page.

He was a 250/1 shot when beaten over 13 lengths at Wolverhampton last time and whilst he might improve now handicapping I’d prefer to see some hint of ability alongside his name.

Giles Glory and Chelmsford winner Miss Ayala do have experience of handicapping but might already need some relief from their current marks.

I’ll chance Athenian Spirit who would have an outstanding chance if repeating his Wolverhampton form from October when second. He wasn’t beaten far at Newcastle subsequently.

NAP HAS SAX APPEAL

⭕ 7.30 Kempton The stayers are out in force for this two mile handicap and Sax Appeal is taken to defy his 5lb penalty for his Southwell win in December when he seemed to have much more in hand than the official three length winning margin might suggest.

Warren Fentiman takes over in the saddle taking 5lb off and the partnership should prove hard to beat particularly in the absence of Bashful Boy.

That leaves Cruden as the obvious danger. He came back to form at Wolverhampton last time out after a break and the switch to his new stable of Dan Horsford.
