MORE MASTER TIPPING FROM DAQMAN: Daqman opposed the 2-1 on hot-pot Malachim Mist yesterday in favour of Master Carpenter (WON 11-4), and made 19 points profit on the day. He went win and place on the gambles, Getabuzz (2nd 7-2 from 16.0 on BETDAQ) and Lord Franklin (3rd 11-2 from 11.0).
BACK-TO-BACK PROFITS TO START THE WEEK: He had finished nine points up on Monday via Alcaeus (WON 3-1) and Plutocracy (WON 10-11), with the same staking plan in which one winner covers the rest of the bets. So his week’s total is now 28 points.
2.30 Lingfield Older horses have never yet beaten the three-year-olds in this maiden so, in theory, we can dismiss half this field.
If we assume that Mr Blue Nose is no better than his AW form, that an out-of-form Olivia Maylam is unlikely to saddle a winner first time on a racecourse right now, and that Ataraxis is truly a Cecil second string, then we have two left.
Do Do Run Run is a slow learner, which is probably why he is not in a handicap after the requisite three runs (three runs for two Runs won’t do).
I think it all suggests that Emperical is hot. Related to the Goodwood Listed winner Jet Away, he was third when subsequent dual winner Brass Ring was fifth at Nottingham in April. Nap.
6.00 Kempton (£/Euro200 Free Bets At Betdaq Median Auction Maiden Stakes) Atlantis City and Solvanna would be in a handicap if they were any good, having run their required three maidens.
Waiting on that are Pursivere, Jareeda, Fenton, Velvetina and Brave Helios, all heading for handicaps, needing this one last run in a maiden.
The well-drawn Parker Ridge could be the one tonight for the same connections as Beauty Parlour. Luca Cumani has a 50% record with just four runners on AW this year and he’s booked Jamie Spencer for this one and for Mallory Heights (see 8.00).
6.30 Kempton (Betdaq Customers Commission Free 1st Month Handicap) CD winners in this are Cats Eyes, Powerful Wind and the exposed trio Island Legend, Picansort and Triple Dream.
Powerful Wind had a lean time last year after an early win (a grade higher than today) shot his rating into the 90s. He’s plummeted to today’s all-time low of 72.
Cats Eyes is high in the handicap after a successful 2012 and may need the race. Island Legend is a summer course-specialist. His form-figures from April to August at Kempton, deleting his last run (lame) are 321210.
Heartsong and West Coast Dream have run well at Kempton but their winning form is on turf soft. First-time visors could make the difference to Church Music but I’ve always had him listed under ‘cut in the ground’.
Front-runner Lastkingofscotland has never been seen over the minimum in 90 starts, and his winning rider on the course last Spring, Luke Morris, is on Powerful Wind.
I expect five-times-CD-winner Island Legend to take over the lead from ‘Last King’ and, at 11.5 on BETDAQ this morning, is worth a punt to stay there. Picansort has the plum draw but gives weight all round, so my second choice is Powerful Wind at 13.0.
7.00 Kempton (Winners Are Welcome At Betdaq Maiden Auction Stakes) Unlike the opener, this maiden has all unexposed types, though we may have seen enough of Brockholes Flyer to consider him a moderate sort.
Jana, an inexpensive buy, made no show first time, though it’s not always wise to write off a Hannon runner on that score.
The Wandaofu, on the other hand, showed up well, as did Plucky Dip. Red Oasis wore a visor for his debut but has no aids today.
Top Of The Glas is interesting with Alan Jarvis in peak form but Thewandaofu got a high Racing Post rating after Warwick and may be good enough.
8.00 Kempton (Betdaq 1st UK Race Commission-Free-Everyday Handicap) With the John Gosden runner withdrawn earlier, will William Buick be at Kempton for Warrigal?
Unsuited by firm ground last time but won well at Lingfield and the runner-up has scored since. He’s a big horse for these bends but the step up in trip will help.
There’s the other Cumani-Spencer: Mallory Heights, another returning to Polytrack after a let-down on turf last time. David Lanagan can do no wrong right now but Portmonarch needs to improve.
Flying Temp looks exposed and I can’t fancy heavy-ground-winner Keep Calm. Grendisar is the one for me.
He’s already performed well a grade higher. In fact, the colt that beat him in a class 4 here in April – Spillway – was won a class 3 since and ran third in the London Gold Cup on Saturday.
The third behind them, Lion Beacon, was a winner before and after that race, and the fourth horse has subsequently been placed in a Listed.
