DAQMAN DAY OF FOUR WINNING BETS: Daqman landed four bets yesterday at the Lingfield and Wolverhampton AW meetings, two in one race and including his 103rd nap of the year. In order of returns (for 30 points profit), they were:
WON 8-11 LIGHT SPEED from 2.95 on BETDAQ
WON (2nd 15-2) ENOUGH ALREADY same race; 11.5 on BETDAQ
WON 4-1 SIXTIES CHIC
WON 11-10 TALIS EVOLVERE (nap)
HAYDOCK OFF BUT TEMPERATURES UP: Haydock Park today has been cancelled because of frost, but temperatures are lifting into double figures for the weekend and big races at Aintree, Chepstow and Sandown, previewed below.
WELSH TRIAL A WINNING GUIDE
SATURDAY is warmer.. We could live with the weekday rain, if only these big races could happen at three major meetings. Here’s the Saturday fare:
AINTREE Currently good to soft; soft in places, including National course. Forecast: Light rain Thursday; light showers Friday, Saturday.
⭕ 2.05 Becher Chase: Only two have scored above 10st 12lb. Favourites 3-10. Last year’s winner was Ashtown Lad with Percussion in third, and Fantastic Lady 5th but had been second in the Topham in April.
Percussion is 2lb better off and was second over these Grand National fences in the Grand Sefton last month.
CHEPSTOW Currently soft-heavy. Forecast: Heavy rain Thursday; cloudy Friday and Saturday with light rain.
⭕ 2.12 Grand National Trial: Only one clear favourite has won in the decade; only one of a double-figure age; eight out of 10 carried below 11st.
Two of the last three Trial winners, Iwilldoit (raised 10lb) and Secret Reprieve (up 4lb), went on to capture the Welsh Grand National the day after Boxing Day.
SANDOWN Currently soft, good to soft in places, but heavy on the hurdles course. Forecast: Light rain Thursday and Friday; heavy Saturday.
⭕ 1.15 Fighting Fifth Hurdle: Is this just showboating Constitution Hill? He’s rated 12lb up on Shishkin and 22lb on Love Envoi.
Nicky Henderson has won it five times in the last seven years, introducing Constitution Hill to score last year and follow in the hoofprints of stablemates Buveur d’Air and Epatante, who both did the double.
⭕ 3.00 Tingle Creek Chase: Last year’s winner, Edwardstone, tries to avenge his Shloer Chase defeat last month by Jonbon.
JULIA’S YARD IS ON A GOOD RUN
⭕ 1.35 Lingfield (Winter Oaks Trial) Oisin Murphy, who has six rides booked here today, knows his filly, Queen Regent; they were a team when second at Chelmsford the last day.
But before that at Newmarket, both Queen Regent (wandered, lost position, hung left closing stages) and Whispering Words (ducked right start, not clear run a furlong out) threw away their chances.
Lakota Sioux was very useful over 7f but was a 50-1 shot when fading out of a Listed, upped to this 1m 2f at Newcastle. Oh So Grand has improved 15lb with three strikes in lower grades.
Of the older fillies – soon to be mares – Rousay’s score of 1-15 is offputting; but Julia Augusta looks poised to maintain Roger Varian’s top form on this track.
She was unlucky at Kempton recently, just failing to catch the winner over a mile, and is stepped up to 1m 2f here with her stable on a run of 331210130 in the last two weeks.
Betdaq Betting Exchange5.6 Julia Augusta
⭕ 2.10 Lingfield Aratus drops down a grade from a long run of Class-2 attempts, including sixth in the International at Ascot in July (‘winner’ on the near side) and was back to form, beaten a length, hooded, on AW the last day. Jim Crowley booked. BETDAQ 3.05
KEMPTON: ROW IN WITH OXFORD
⭕ 8.00 Kempton (London Stayers’ Series Final, 2m) Three-year-olds provided the winner last year, though they had only three of the 13 starters. Today they have one.
Duke Of Oxford, their sole representative, won one of the qualifiers in November over the Kempton CD off 9st 3lb, in receipt of 3lb from the runner-up Zoran.
Duke Of Oxford has been penalised only 3lb (negated by the claimer) for winning that day in his first attempt beyond 1m 4f, and gets weight from 12 others.
Front-runner Blazeon Five has been placed seven times out of nine races on AW, three wins among them; but he was run out of it by Sir Chauvelin at Southwell in September.
Sir Chauvelin won another Kempton qualifier for this final about a month back but second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh all take him on again.
Sleeping Lion set the pace, with Sir Chauvelin getting up in the final stride. BETDAQ 6.7 Duke Of Oxford
But the ‘moral’ was Evaluation, who was short of room at the finish but beaten only a length and a half, and is out of the same stall 4 today. Just behind were Vino Victrix and Enemy.
In seventh was Rainbow Dreamer, who won that same final qualifier for this last year on today’s course, and was then second in the final, so it looks a very good guide.
Evaluation (BETDAQ 12.0)was running after a long break, first time for Charlie Johnston, who won this race last year, so I make him the danger to Duke Of Oxford.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
