NAP, NAP, NAP, NAP, NAP! FIVE DAYS RUNNING: Daqman has now had a winning nap on five consecutive days (five bets out of six, in fact). His latest was Nestor Park yesterday. The fabulous five have produced 101 points profit from six bets:
WON 13-8 NESTOR PARK (yesterday’s nap)
WON 8-13 PYM (supernap Monday)
WON 4-9 ESPOIR D’ALLEN (supernap Sunday)
WON 6-4 HONEYSUCKLE (supernap Saturday)
WON 9-2 CRACKING FIND (Friday bull’s-eye nap to win 50)
DUBLIN FESTIVAL: SATURDAY FACTS AND STATS: Today and tomorrow he looks at stats, facts and highlights of the two-day Dublin Festival (Leopardstown Saturday and Sunday). Here’s the first day, Saturday, featuring the Irish Champion Hurdle but with the Ladbrokes Hurdle a mouthwatering handicap for punters.
WHICH ONE’S WILLIE’S LUCKY 7?
12.50 Leopardstown (Saturday) This Grade-1 2m 6f novice hurdle is not Gordon Elliott’s race and his favourite, Battleoverdoyen, is among those set to carry 11st 10lb. Such a topweight has won this only once in 10 years.
The stats are keener on Salsaretta and Relegate, who represent Willie Mullins (six wins in a row up to last year).
1.25 Ladbrokes Dublin Chase, Leopardstown (Saturday) Min won this last year from Simply Ned, but met ‘monsters’ in the 2m championships at Cheltenham (Altior), Aintree (Politologue) and Punchestown (Un De Sceaux).
Footpad won the novice equivalents, the Arkle at Cheltenham and Ryanair at Punchestown, but was beaten by Simply Ned here in December.
3.10 Irish Champion Hurdle, Leopardstown (Saturday) The last two winners, Petit Mouchoir (2017) and Supasundae (2018), meet for a decider in which neither one is favourite!
Melon, only fifth last year but then second in the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle, is top rated, and the current-form horse is hat-trick winner Apple’s Jade.
She beat Supasundae 20 lengths in the Hattons Grace at Fairyhouse in December.
3.35 Ladbrokes Hurdle, Leopardstown (Saturday) Strike out the top weights; oppose the favourites! And prepare for a big-odds-on-BETDAQ Daqman punt.
Eight winners out of 10 have been double-figure SPs from 10-1 to 50-1 and none in the decade has carried more than 10st 10lb (two have been out of the handicap).
A JUMP TOO FAR
Today’s jumps action has been curtailed by the weather with both Plumpton and Leicester being called off earlier today.
The good news is the all-weather card at Lingfield goes ahead following a precautionary inspection and will join the late starting Wolverhampton card as today’s only action.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Wincanton and Fakenham will both stage morning inspections and for the weekend Dublin Racing Festival, mentioned above, officials remain optimistic despite forecast for potential snow.
SUPERNAP TO SCORCH HOME
3.50 Lingfield Scorched Breath showed more than enough on debut to suggest he can land this Ladbrokes Novice Auction Stakes.
The Charlie Fellowes trained runner was nibbled at in the market on debut over this trip and shaped really well to finish third to Total Commitment.
San Carlos, who finished fifth that day, came out to win well next time out at Chelmsford to give the form a boost. He remains the only one of the top five to have raced again since.
The Fellowes stable have only sent out seven runners so far in 2019 with a winner and a second.
This doesn’t look a strong contest, so much so that the debutant With Caution may prove the biggest threat.
Second Collection ran her best race yet when second over this trip at Wolverhampton last time out but her overall profile is exposed and it would be disappointing if Scorched Breath wasn’t able to improve enough from first start to beat her.
£1 buys us £0.80 at the time of writing and he qualifies as a SUPERNAP to hopefully warm up a cold Wednesday.
4.20 Lingfield Pharoh Jake is now an 11-year-old but is running as well as ever and can make a bold bid in the finale.
He ran well for today’s pilot Ellie Mackenzie over course and distance last time out when second – the combination previously won over C & D before that.
Both those races were class 6 so he’s down a notch today and faces quite a few rivals who are out of form.
5.15 Wolverhampton Five stayers in action over this extended two mile trip.
The eyes certainly gets drawn to the Gordon Elliott trained raider Markhan who handles the all-weather well at Dundalk and although up in trip compared to recent runs – proved he has the stamina when winning a 1m 7f flat race at Punchestown and he has also run well over longer trips over hurdles including 2m 3f at Clonmel.
He can see off the challenge of Red Royalist who ran well at Kempton after a long break but there is always the bounce factor to consider.
