LOOK OUT FOR A SUPERNAP AT LUDLOW: Daqman finds a supernap at Ludlow today plus a ‘hidden horse’ there at around 5-1 in the BETDAQ orange. He’s also prepping the weekend races, itching for another big-race hit in a sequence like last Saturday’s five on the card at Newbury.
DON’T MISS WEEKEND DAQMAN
Daqman had five winners at Newbury on Saturday and is 12-5 ahead, and 35 points clear of the Racing Post’s Pricewise in the value big races. He’s already working on some big hits this weekend.
Get ahead of the game! I’m preparing for more killings with some homework for the weekend racing and beyond, and, with the right declarations, I have several solid targets. Examples:
PENALTIES: I’ve got a race which penalised horses never win but punters let the form lure of past success attract their money. Result: not a winning favourite in six seasons.
WEIGHT FOR IT! I’ve got a horse that wins every third or fourth race and is with a trainer so smart that it has won three races over a three-year period all within a narrow 3lb ratings range for weight carried.
TURNKEY: I’ve found a turnkey race from which the winner has registered five wins or places at the subsequent Cheltenham and Aintree festivals in the last three years alone.
COPAIN IS SUPERNAP CLASSE
2.20 Ludlow Three of the last five Kim Bailey runners to finish have all won. And Phil Middleton has landed two out of three.
Can one of them cut down the Paul Nicholls favourite, Copain De Classe? Success at Wincanton in March landed him an 11lb rise over hurdles and he came back in November as a novice chaser.
I can’t see that he did much wrong, first time over fences, apart from failing to land the money as favourite. He must have had problems since to be absent 60 days.
At the time, Nicholls had told interviewers: ‘I adore him. He’s going to develop into a smart chaser.’ So I don’t think Paul will want to be blushing again at a second defeat for Copain de Classe as favourite!
Kim Bailey’s Little Chunk is first time over fences but Phil Middleton’s Exitas won a class-2 Listed at Ascot in November and, despite being 10, has jumped in only 13 chases.
Though weighted to his best, he is surely the one to test the favourite. whose name means ‘classmate’. Copain de Classe has to be up to class 2, if Exitas is on his mark.
FOLLOW NICK’S DAISY CHAIN
2.50 Ludlow Kim Bailey again, but Sainte Ladytime drops back from mixed fortunes as a chaser, hoping to recall the days of a hurdles hat-trick which cost the mare top weight in this field.
Ellens Way, raised 12lb for a 14-length romp on Boxing Day at Fontwell, tries to get one under the radar, reappearing after just eight days with a penalty, so that she is 5lb well in on future ratings.
But I fancy Daisy de Sivola is a ‘hidden horse’, much better than the bare form. The ex-French mare loves heavy ground and has always seemed crying out for a trip.
Trainer Nick Williams currently has stunning form figures of 11121341323, still standing, and Daisy could well continue the chain.
MAJEUR CHANCE IN THE CUP
3.00 Musselburgh (Kilmany Cup) Devon trainer Victor Dartnall makes the marathon trip to Scotland for the third time with Ut Majeur Aulmes.
Previous long hauls for the horse to Perth have produced form figures of 123, and the ground is right for this deviation to Edinburgh.
Dartnall and today’s rider, Nick Schofield, were together at Exeter on the first day of the year, winning with a well-backed favourite.
Mixboy won this Kilmany Cup last year but there were only four starters and he has 11lb more this time around. He had a run back on AW a month ago, so won’t lack for fitness. Chain Of Beacons is up 7lb.
