THE STABLE WITH PLANS FOR TODAY: Can you spot final flings for the Flat season? Which trainers do well? Daqman looks at Newmarket, where six of the seven races are for juveniles. He finds a stable with a brilliant strike rate is testing its two-year-olds as the owners decide their future.

TWO AGAINST THE FIELD: He finds bets at 24.0, 9.6, 8.3 and 7.2 as he pairs them off and adds a stayers’ race at kempton

STOUTE STILL HAS ZEST

£££ Aidan O’Brien is more than £4m ahead of Charlie Appleby on prizemoney won; and Andrew Balding has had twice as many winners.

But Appleby stands alone with the incredible strike rate of 30% for the entire year and today is one of the days he tests his lesser lights among the two-year-olds to answer the question: are you worth keeping for another year?

Appleby has had eight winners since 2017 in the three races 2.20, 2.55 and 3.30, all for two-year-olds.

⭕ 1.45 Newmarket It’s a long road home to Pulborough but Amanda Perrett has made a million from raids on Newmarket.

The Racing Post says she is getting 100% from her runners but what makes 100% of unraced Pershalla’s ability we don’t know and Amanda may not know either.

But this is the time of year to sniff out the unexpected and this is one of the races to do it in: past winners since 2017 include 10-1 (twice), 12-1, 16-1 (twice) and 25-1. BETDAQ 24.0 Pershalla.

Of his farewell rides for Sir Michael Stoute in the trainer’s final season, Ryan Moore has won 23% and been placed 17 times out of 30, which is nearer 60%, and well-drawn With Zest is out of a Pivotal mare so likely to enjoy the soft ground. Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.2.

GO WEST, YOUNG MAN..

⭕ 2.20 Newmarket Charlie Appleby goes for a hat-trick in this race, his winners in the last two seasons defying the usual effect of the draw and landing gambles.

Both had raced once, both at Newmarket, all stats which fit 4.0 offer Hidden Secret, who started his career in June behind stablemate Ancient Truth, who was third in the Dewhurst recently.

I was reporting yesterday on the talents at stud of Wootton Bassett, who stands at Coolmore for €200,000, and Roger Varian (currently 5-9) wants to know about Due West from the get-go by giving Ryan Moore the leg up. BETDAQ 9.6

SPLIT APPLEBY STAKES

⭕ 2.55 Newmarket Charlie Appleby has won three out of seven, all three ridden by William Buick, two of them scoring first time out.

He has two runners today, the Dubawi colt Arabian Poet (Buick) at BETDAQ 3.1 and Tremorgio (James Doyle) at 4.5.

Team Gosden is conspicuous by their absence. Last year they ran the grey loser (drifted out to 40-1), Dr Hackenbush, named after a character from the Marx Brothers film, A Day At The Races.

Groucho Marx had good advice for punters: ‘Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.’

ARE WE WATCHING STARS?

⭕ 3.30 Newmarket Two more winners in the last four seasons for Charlie Appleby in this nursery.

Interesting in that his Watching Stars won a sustained duel with Ralph Beckett’s Valiant Knight over 7f at Thirsk.

He now gets 7lb and cheekpieces to help him beat another Beckett, called Anniversary, who just failed to last out on heavy at Epsom against Too Soon, who next ran fourth in a Group 3.

8.3 FOR CHARM OFFENSIVE

⭕ 8.10 Kempton Andrew Balding had high hopes of the Frankel colt, Cadogan Place, and sent him straight up the ladder from winning at Southwell to join Classic contenders in the Chester Vase in May. No go.

Oisin Murphy, who rode him in those early days, is back to begin again, after a good run here last month following a wind op.

He was staying on over 1m 4f as if today’s two-mile test would get him back on the right track.

Similarly, Galactic Charm was an eyecatcher, stepped up in trip at Yarmouth, with Hollie Doyle winning on James’ Owens’s Charging Thunder. Hollie now rides Galactic Charm at BETDAQ 8.3 this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
