6-1 STRIKE TAKES DAQMAN 5-1 UP OVER PRICEWISE: Daqman missed out on a Classic-trial double at Leopardstown yesterday by half a length. His nap, Russian Emperor, came too late to catch his pacemaker in the Derby Trial but the same stable gave our man a cracking strike in the Fillies Trial when Love Locket (WON 6-1) boosted his lead over Pricewise in their value challenge. Daqman is 5-1 up after only nine days of the season, 137.50 points clear to 10pt stakes (+42.50 to -95.00). Yesterday:

WON 6-1 LOVE LOCKET (Filles Trial at Leopardstown)
WON 100-30 CELCIUS (Haydock)

NEW DOUBLE-VALUE BET IS REVEALED TOMORROW: Stakes are reduced today and tomorrow, a comparative lull in the big-race frenzy created by the delayed season, but special bets are back on Friday and Saturday for the Irish Guineas meeting. Daqman reviews his staking plans today and introduces a new ‘double-value’ bet tomorrow.

DAQMAN’S 2020 GOLDEN GUINEAS

A Guineas six hit! That’s the Daqman plan for Friday and Saturday at the Curragh, with the intention of adding at least two more winning Classic bets to the Guineas quartet already in the bag.

Actual bets declared were two wins, a big-odds place and a lay, though he did put Love (WON 4-1) on top of his 1,000 Guineas stats pack. The ones that count are:

WON 10-1 KAMEKO (Newmarket 2,000 Guineas)
WON (lay) 3RD 5-6 PINATUBO (Newmarket 2,000 Guineas)
WON (2ND 12-1) CLOAK OF SPIRITS (w/p Newmarket 1,000 Guineas)
WON 5-4 VICTOR LUDORUM (French 2,000 Guineas)

Supernap, the short-odds bet, is being dropped for the moment while results are blowing in the wind after the delayed start.

Daqman is doing better laying, not backing, the short shots: he is currently 3-3. Overall his naps are 4-9 for a small level-stakes profit.

Bull’s-eye bets are up 58 points and Daqman is 137.50 clear of Pricewise in their value challenge, with a 5-1 lead and a profit of 42.50 to his opponents minus 95 points.

Daqman has an occasional boost to his outsiders with a bull’s-eye nap, but tomorrow he launches a new bet at that end of the market, a Double-Value Bet which could produce 100-point hits, where bull’s-eye bets are intended to win 50.

TAKE EXCEPTION TO BACKING THE LION

⭕ 2.50 Pontefract The West Yorkshire card looks a minefield – for the first four races at least where previous form is scarce. In the circumstances, it might be worth pressing the pause button until the 2.50 where the favourite Lion Tower looks opposable.

The Mark Johnston trained runner is on to a hat-trick but his two wins have come at Southwell which is a law unto itself and he has no previous experience on turf.

That’s not to say he won’t convert the form but it’s a skinny price to find out for the co-top weight and whilst the stable have had 14 winners they’ve come, as usual, from plenty of arrows being fired – 91 to be precise for a strike-rate of 15%. They had a couple of favourites beaten yesterday amongst their nine runners without a win.

Exceptional might be the one to take him on with but the filly is hard to weigh up. She was very green on debut at Carlisle but smart enough to make a winning debut there and was subsequently thought good enough to be sent to Royal Ascot where she finished down the field in the Albany Stakes.

She can be forgiven that run in the context of this race, should be suited by the better ground and with the absence of stablemate Hurcle and Sir Michael Stoute’s runner Vasari is one of the few remaining runners capable of showing real improvement.

GIN LOOKS THE TONIC

3.20 Pontefract Basically spin the same record again for this race.

Oleg tops the market on the back of a facile win at Southwell last time out but off a new mark of 12lb higher makes limited appeal. That was his British flat debut but he brings solid NH form and should be suited by this tough test of stamina and seems versatile ground wise.

The Olly Murphy yard struck last night at Chelmsford with What Will Be and have a great chance here with Ginistrelli who joins the yard from Ed Walker. I think he has been crying out for a try over this trip.

He won well at Haydock two starts ago (1m 6f) and Ed Walker reported that he appreciated the step up in trip. He was staying on really well and the extended trip here should suit even better.

MAYBE MABO?

6.20 Wolverhampton On a day of speculative selections I shall finish by taking a small interest with Mabo here – backing to win 10 points on both the BETDAQ win and place markets.

Trainer Grace Harris stunned the empty stands at Newmarket last week with 33/1 shot Bungee Jump who made all and stormed home by five and a half lengths.

Her runner here Mabo has pretty consistent form and remains on a winning mark.

In any case, I want to look beyond favourite Bell Heather who has a 1 from 25 career CV.

DAQMAN’S BETS (all staked to win 10 points including place bet)
BET 1.7pts win EXCEPTIONAL (2.50 Pontefract)
BET 3.0pts win (nap) GINISTRELLI (3.20 Pontefract)
BET 1.7pts win and 6.25pts place MABO (6.20 Wolverhampton)
