DAQMAN TRAPS TWO NAPS OUT OF THREE: Winner-a-day Daqman continued his sequence yesterday, making 5.5 points profit on the day via his staking plan, and landing his second nap in the three days. Temper Trap gave weight all round and had to overtake a wall of horses but raced right away down the middle of the track at Ripon.

FUTURE REVEALED IN JUST THREE RACES: August is a wicked month for producing future star racehorses, particularly from Deauville and the first set of top two-year-old races at the Curragh, starting on Saturday. Today Daqman concentrates on the 45 Aidan O’Brien winners in three of them, and charts the progress of the most recent scorers.

LAUNCH OF O’BRIEN LEGENDS

WHERE do Group-1 winners come from? WHICH races produce the stars? It’s a basic weapon in your betting armory to trace them all.

For instance, three August two-year-old races have been won an incredible total of 45 times by the legend who creates legends, trainer Aidan O’Brien.

So how many of his future champions were launched on their Group-winning paths in the red-hot trio of juvenile events? Final ratings at left.

⭕ PHOENIX STAKES (Curragh, 6f, on Saturday): 17 O’Brien winners of the race.

124 Mastercraftsman (2008) went on to win the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes
120 George Washington (2005) won the 2,000 Guineas.
116 Little Big Bear (2022) completed four in a row in the Phoenix; won Sandy Lane Stakes this season and second in the Commonwealth Cup.
115 Caravaggio (2016) won the Flying Five and the Commonwealth Cup

⭕ FUTURITY STAKES (Curragh, 7f, August 19): 15 O’Brien winners.

126 Giants Causeway (1999) won six Group 1, including Eclipse and Sussex Stakes
123 Churchill (2016) won four Group 1, including English and Irish 2,000 Guineas
122 Anthony Van Dyck (2018) won the Epsom Derby
122 Cape Bianco (2009) won the Irish Derby and the Arlington Million.
122 Gleneagles (2014) won four Group 1, including English and Irish 2,000 Guineas.

⭕ DEBUTANTE STAKES (Curragh, 7f fillies, August 19): 13 O’Brien winners.

122 Magical (2017) won seven Group 1, including English and Irish Champion Stakes.
112 Rhododendron (2016) won the Opera and the Lockinge.
109 Meditate (2022) won the Yorkshire Oaks.

THE PONTY SPECIALISTS

⭕ 3.50 Pontefract The stayers in action here on ground that has dried to good.

It’s a quirky circuit at Pontefract so course and distance winners are always worth a second look.

Yorkindness was an easy winner here in June but it looked a really weak four runner race at the time and the Charlie Johnston trained runner now has to prove herself in a higher grade and with 3lb extra.

At bigger odds on the Betdaq Betting Exchange Flint Hill won here last year but when the ground was good to soft and is another who is up in grade. He was also bitterly disappointing here when last seen out in June when finishing last of the seven runners in today’s same grade.

Another course specialist is the Tim Easterby trained Carrigillihy who has won here four times but over much shorter trips.

The hike up in trip shouldn’t trouble the grey who was third at York when last tried over a similar distance (2m) in a better class 3 event.

He has been campaigned around 1m 4f since then but I like the step up trip factor and expect him to be switched off in the early stages making his move around the turn for home. Let’s hope he has read the script.

RED ALERT

⭕ 4.20 Pontefract Tele Red is up 6lb in the handicap but I’m not betting against the Karl Burke trained runner completing his hat-trick.

After a smooth win in an apprentice race at Haydock last month he followed up off the same mark a week later at York in a class 4 (same as today). He had plenty in hand then and whilst his two recent wins have come with give in the ground he seems equally as effective on a quicker surface and is a previous a winner on good to firm.

Perhaps his strongest positive today though is the fact that most of his rivals seem woefully out of form at present.

Second favourite in the morning market was Global Spirit who won this last year (when 8lb higher in the handicap) but his latest runs have been a bit flat.

CHARLIE THE NAME TO FOLLOW

⭕ 7.30 Kempton Charlie Appleby has some big chances on tonight’s Kempton card and it’s not inconceivable that he can plunder the first three races.

He’s given the others a chance in the 7.30 where it might go to another Charlie but this time Johnston.

His Sayidh Kingman has come along nicely in four starts on the turf and looks the type to go well on the all-weather.

Some of his rivals are already looking like their limitations have been exposed in this two-year-old contest.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
