AN 8-1 SHARK BITE SAVES THE DAY: Yet again yesterday, Daqman found a good-priced winner to compensate for a difficult day. This time it was Legal Shark (WON 8-1), tipped in the opener at Lingfield despite form figures of 00000.

SPOTLIGHT ON TOP JUVENILE FORM: Today there are two upmarket meetings, at Salisbury this afternoon and at Gowran Park in Ireland tonight, where Daqman is looking for top-class juvenile form to be franked by a Ballydoyle runner.

FOLLOW HANAGAN AT SALISBURY

3.25 Salisbury (Pembroke Cup) Paul Hanagan stands by Khalaas, on whom he scored at Newcastle, even though he failed to follow up when favourite for his first handicap at Newmarket.

The other Hamdan runner, Alkawn, is in the same position of now switching from a big-field maiden win to tackle a handicap. But not a single one of his 13 rivals in the maiden has scored since. He did beat Sky Cape that day, a well touted newcomer for Charlie Appleby so it was by no means a weak maiden.

However, Khalaas my just have a little more room for improvement of 83 compared to 85 of Alkawn. Khalaas was well fancied on his Handicap debut at Newmarket and that experience will stand him in good stead today. The 2lbs difference could make all the difference.

3.55 Salisbury (Upavon Stakes) Sir Michael Stoute has the provenance for this, and here he is running a horse called Provenance.

Sir Michael’s three winners since 2007 were all three-year-olds, but they have split the verdict in the decade, 5-5, with older horses.

This one should be another for the three year olds with Suffused. It is going to take a decent sort to beat her but this is a decent race. She won well two runs back in a nice race at Newbury before a facile victory over course and distance.

Pamona is main danger of all the three year olds while Stoute’s Provenance shouldn’t be too far away either. This looks like it will be going to the in form Roger Charlton though with Suffused.

HURRY FOR CORAIL AT GOWRAN

5.30 Gowran Park Aidan O’Brien’s form in this since 2005 is 1311311113, with the 2011 Irish Derby winner, Treasure Beach, among his winners.

The Ballydoyle runner here, London, was unfortunate to meet a potential Jim Bolger star, Herald The Dawn, at Naas on the last day.

Herald The Dawn is considered ‘special’ and has entries in all the big two-year-old Group 1 and Group 2 tests in England and Ireland.

But so, too, has London and both yards will be relying on him to frank the form today, unless there are some mighty newcomers.

6.30 Gowran Park (Hurry Harriett Stakes) Dermot Weld is 103311 in this and he runs Afternoon Sunlight for the Moyglare Stud Farm. She is a well regarded sort but with the ground drying out all the time, it may not be completely in her favour.

My Titania has a been a slightly frustrating filly having looked top class as a juvenile. I’m not fully convinced what her optimum trip is as she seems to falter at some point and over varying distances. It may be that she could do with another furlong.

Corail is far too big at around 8.4. She ran a cracking race at Galway last time having had some trouble in running before sprinting home to lead just after the line. The Guineas Trial in May was just a step too far but she won a nice maiden in Limerick prior to that. It took her a little while to get going but she bounded clear to win well.

The step up to 11 furlongs appears like it should be perfect for her and I would much rather have a bet on her at 8.4 than Afternoon Sunlight at 3.4.

7.00 Gowran Park This is Jim Bolger’s party! He’s won the race four times in the decade, with horses aged three and four, all with big weights, like his three-year-old Novis Adventus today.

Dermot Weld runs Sierra Sun who ran well in the big Amateur Handicap at the Galway Festival. I don’t see the drop back in trip for her as a positive though. She looked slightly flat footed in Tipperary earlier in the season when getting hammered by Unrequited, albeit giving away a lot of weight.

The aforementioned Bolger charge is a very interesting runner. He showed great heart to win at Naas, going away at the finish to beat Sight Hound. He then ran very creditably in the Gallinule at The Curragh behind Curvy and Giovanni Cannaletto. On those two runs, he’s been crying out for a step up in a trip and today could prove that one in a slightly easier contest than last time.
