DAQMAN’S NINE WINNERS IN A WEEK: Daqman has scored nine winning bets in a week thanks to a Giga bite at Wolverhampton last night; in fact, Bigger Than Giga (WON 2-1), after 5-2 Monday and 11-4 Sunday strikes. He spends some of his winnings on doubles and trebles at Sandown tonight.

SATURDAY BIG RACE HORSE-BY-HORSE: First he gives you form, stats and facts for Saturday’s King George in ratings order for all 15 acceptors.

KING GEORGE RATINGS AND FORM

⭕ 3.40 Ascot, Saturday (King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, 1m 4f, Group 1)

STATS: It has taken a Derby or an Oaks winner to capture the King George as a three-year-old, with one exception among the seven second-season colts and fillies to win this since 1994.

Some 11-13 four-year-olds won between 2004 and 2016; five-year-olds seven since 1988; and the only six-year-old winners since 1951, Swain (1998) and Enable (2020) were completing a sequence, double and treble respectively.

TRAINERS: John Gosden 5, Aidan O’Brien 4. JOCKEYS: Frankie Dettori 3.

FAVOURITES: 40%.

DRAW: Stalls 3 and 4 have jointly won 50% in the decade, with stalls 3, 4, 4 winning in the last three years.

124 PYLEDRIVER Last year’s hero tries to land the double as a six-year-old today. Lightly raced for his age and his victory came at the expense of Torquator Tasso, the 2021 Arc winner and 2022 third.

Coronation Cup winner of 2021, Pyledriver was beaten in the same race last year by Hukum 50 days before his King George triumph. This year he won the Hardwicke Stakes in June.

123 AUGUSTE RODIN Futurity winner at Doncaster on heavy as a 2-y-o but won both the English (firm) and Irish (good) Derbys on a sound surface.

Convincing at Epsom, bouncing back from an off-day in the 2,000 Guineas, but the placed horses at the Curragh were officially 18lb and 27lb inferior.

123 DESERT CROWN Just four races in his life but his second and third starts last year produced a Dante-Derby double, done by his trainer before. Beaten by Hukum in Brigadier Gerard Stakes, sole start this year; classy but fragile individual.

122 HUKUM Another lightly raced – 14 turf starts, though aged six –
Spring defeats of Pyledriver (2022 Coronation Cup) and Desert Crown (2023 at Sandown), his only starts in England since scoring at Ascot in the autumn of 2021.

122 LUXEMBOURG Won the 2021 Futurity at Doncaster and the 2022 Irish Champion Stakes on soft. Six wins from only 10 starts but not scored beyond 1m 2f, though stayed on, seventh, in last year’s Arc,

120 EMILY UPJOHN Oaks second in 2022, but disappointed in the King George. British Champion (Fillies and Mares) in first-time hood; wore it again when beating Westover in the Coronation Cup in June but it was left off when Paddington beat her in the Eclipse five weeks later.

120 KING OF STEEL Seventh of nine to Auguste Rodin in the Doncaster Futurity (heavy) last October but closed that one down to half a length in the Epsom Derby in June before winning the ‘Royal Ascot Derby’ (King Edward V11 Stakes) over the King George CD three weeks later.

119 WESTOVER The 2022 Derby third to Desert Crown was only 5th in the King George and 6th in the Arc, but second in both the Sheema Classic (March) and Coronation Cup (June) before winning the Group-1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud three weeks back.

118 BROOME Aged seven now, has won three Pattern races on the soft, including the Hardwicke Stakes over CD (June 2022, firm), and recently the Dubai Gold Cup (2m, good).

117 HAMISH Another seven-year-old, has scored six times on a slow surface, including over 1m 4f and 1m 6f. Stepped up from handicapping to win the Ormonde Stakes twice.

117 SIMCA MILLE Arc-targeted four-year-old, winner of five turf races out of just nine, completing a Group-2 hat-trick in the Niel, Harcourt and Grand Prix de Chantilly.

116 DEAUVILLE LEGEND Lightly raced; won the 2022 Great Voltigeur and fourth in the Melbourne Cup after a break. Not seen again until good fourth to Pyledriver in the Hardwicke Stakes over CD at the royal meeting last month.

114 ADELAIDE RIVER Placed three times at Group-1 level without winning; not scored since breaking his maiden last August but closed down Auguste Rodin from 11 lengths to a length and a half between Epsom Derby eighth and his second in the Irish Derby. Second again in the Grand Prix de Paris behind French Derby fourth, Feed The Flame.

113 POINT LONSDALE Soft-ground lover; four in a row as a juvenile, and back-to-back wins this spring, before seemingly out of his depth behind Emily Upjohn and Westover in the Coronation Cup.

110 BOLSHOI BALLET Ballysax then Derby-trial winner at Leopardstown in the Spring of 2021 before winning the Belmont Derby; all 1m 2f. Beaten only a neck over 1m 4f at Newbury in the Spring but that was Group 3.

BUICK SANDOWN TREBLE CHANCE

Betdaq Betting Exchange William Buick Sandown treble at morning offers: 7.0 Chalk Mountain (7.10 race), 4.2 Mudskipper (7.40 race) and 2.92 Gallant Lion (in the 8.10). See bets below.

⭕ 7.10 Sandown Deja vu in this 7f 3-y-o handicap: all three previous winners have been SP favourite, all from yards coming back for more, with runners today: David Menuisier, David O’Meara and Ed Walker.

But winningmost jockey in the race (2-3), William Buick, swerves his former winning partnerships with Menuisier and O’Meara and rides for Stuart Kittow on Chalk Mountain.

Overnight Oats and Enola Grey are the only runners in this race to have won on turf but Chalk Mountain showed improved form in blinkers the last day.

Buick is trailing Rossa Ryan and Oisin Murphy for winners on turf and AW this year but his higher overall strike rate (20%) since the start of Flat turf has him leading the championship table on 64 from Joe Fanning (50) and Tom Marquand (46).

Oisin Murphy (41) and Rossa Ryan (38) are well behind, striking only at 14 and 15%.

⭕ 7.40 Sandown Buick is back on a Menuisier animal in this one, the unexposed Mudskipper, first run gelded, after showing promise at Goodwood and Newbury with cut in the ground.

Two Tempting is a Kempton lover (two wins there) and, raised by the handicapper, has to give 12lb to Mudskipper.

⭕ 8.10 Sandown The improver Gallant Lion can tuck in from the one stall and complete a Buick treble from off a pace set by Morcar, who gives him 8lb for winning a three-horse race at Windsor in slow time

Gozo started badly in both the Bibury Cup and a class-2 handicap at the July meeting, showing a burst of late speed but not going through with it.
