LOOK OUT FOR DASCOMBE HIT: Daqman has an outsider for the Haydock Sprint, told that the horse has improved for ‘special training.’ So, if this Tom Dascombe horse doesn’t win that, he’s one for the notebook at a future good price.
IT’S A DAQ MULTIPLES DAY: Today’s a poor day’s sport so a day for short offers and Daq Multiples doubles and a trble at Bath, Carlisle and Southwell.
LIGHT ON THE HORIZON: Better racing tomorrow with the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury which includes three unbeaten fillies.
KACHY TUNE OUT OF THIS OUTSIDER
Look out for a plot horse. A monster like Limato or Twilight Son could yet turn up for the Haydock Sprint on Saturday.
Even so, three-year-olds, who are winning 70% of Group-1s this season, have some huge contenders.
The Haydock Sprint had eight Classic-generation winners in the 12 years up to 1990. Now, in this decade, they’ve made a comeback in the race, going for a hat-trick.
The obvious chances are held by Dancing Star and Quiet Reflection. Dancing Star, winner of the Stewards Cup, has beaten 60 horses in his last three starts!
Quiet Reflection was beaten by Limato in the July Cup but, on Saturday’s likely softish ground, is ‘the same horse’, ounce for ounce, as Kachy on Commonwealth Cup form. Kachy was beaten a length but was giving 3lb.
The same applies in the Haydock Sprint but the course will suit Kachy much, much better. He ran an excellent race behind Profitable in the Temple Stakes in May, when his stable was out of sorts. Better than the bare form, having been straightened out by special training at home.
HAGGAS HAS A DOUBLE ON A PLATE
2.30 and 3.00 Bath William Haggas can land a double across the cards today with Lapilli in this 3.00 at Bath and Golden Reign at Carlisle.
Lapilli created a big impression at Yarmouth last week when ridden by Georgia Cox, who keeps the ride.
Georgia could make it a day to remember, as her mount in the previous race, Silverrica (2.30), won it last year.
The likely favourite, Edged Out, has raced at Bath no fewer than 21 times but has won only twice.
5.20 Carlisle William Haggas has a 30% strike rate when he gets the horse box out and fills the tank, and he has 50% hits at Carlisle.
Golden Reign looks like a bridesmaid but takes on one long absent from the track and her form looks good enough.
In her last race, the first two – she was second – finished 18 lengths clear of the remainder and in her previous race the first three – she was third – finished 18 lengths clear of the remainder, again.
NERVES OF STEEL NEEDED IN MATCH
3.20 Southwell We need one over the sticks to go with the Haggas trio on this dismal day’s sport.
I’ll go for Nikki Steel, who was transformed by the step up in trip at Newton Abbot and has Richard Johnson on board today.
At the weights, this looks a match with Perfect Summer, as I can’t see those higher in the handicaps having the legs of this pair.
