EFL CUP FINAL SUNDAY: We preview Sunday’s EFL Cup Final at Wembley between MAN U v SOUTHAMPTON. The chance for the first silverware in the Mourinho Man U era. What’s the best BETDAQ bet?
MANCHESTER UNITED V SOUTHAMPTON
4.30pm Manchester United have their chance to win their first trophy under Jose Mourinho on Sunday afternoon in Wembley as they meet Southampton in the EFL Cup final! We’d love to say that this will be a cracker, however looking at the defensive record of both sides, it could turn out to be a very tactical affair.
United arrive into Wembley off the back of five clean sheets in their last six games in all competitions, looking back further is even more impressive – they’ve only conceded 13 in their last 25. Southampton will have their work cut out to break down this United side, who seem to be finally getting into the Jose Mourinho way of doing things – they have only lost once in their last 25 matches now, and that was against Hull in the second leg of this competitions when they tie was basically already over.
So we know what to expect from United, however it’s hard to know what’s coming from Southampton. They have been impressive in this competition, however after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg they went on a terrible run where they lost to Arsenal, Swansea and West Ham. You can forgive the Arsenal game because it was the second XI, but those losses to Swansea and West Ham were poor – they did steady the ship with a 4-0 win over Sunderland last time out, but Sunderland sit bottom of the Premier League table.
The match odds at the time of writing currently stand at; Manchester United 1.81, Southampton 5.4 with the draw trading 3.7. We can’t argue with those odds, as they look pretty much bang on – as is the case for most finals really. We see United winning in the end, but Southampton making it very hard work.
Southampton will almost definitely set up to defend here and counter attack, much like they did against Liverpool. With United in great form at the moment, it could be very dangerous to give them most of the ball, however it being a final we can’t see United going all out from the word go either. The bet we like here is under 2.5 goals at 1.75 which looks great value. This game just screams unders on paper, and we could see a really cagey affair – don’t rule out a 0-0 either!
