EURO 2016 MONDAY: The final quarter-finalists will be revealed on Monday. At 5pm ITALY play SPAIN and at 8pm it’s ENGLAND v ICELAND.
Italy v Spain
5pm This is the clash of the Last 16 and hopefully it’s a cracker. At the moment though the markets believe it will be a tight, cagey affair with under 2.5 goals trading at 1.42 – that’s the lowest price we’ve seen for unders in the Last 16 – and while much of the pre-game thoughts scream a tight game, that’s just too short to back. 0-0 at FT is also as short as 6.2.
At the time of writing the odds in the 90 minute market are Italy 4.6, Spain 2.2 and the draw 3.0 and it’s hard to argue with that – however slight preference at the odds would go to Italy at 4.6 rather than Spain at 2.2, Italy have been fairly solid at the back up to when they rested players against Ireland. With unders too short and nothing standing out on the match odds market, the best call could be a quiet first half – as we have seen so far in the Last 16, the fear of losing almost overtakes winning early on and we like the draw at half time at around 1.91.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Draw at Half Time at 1.91.
Some Italy v Spain facts:
- This will be the sides 35th meeting, with the record perfectly matched with ten wins each and 14 draws.
- Italy have failed to score in three of their last four knockout games at the European Championships.
- Italy last beat Spain in a major tournament in 1994.

England v Iceland
8pm What a great story Iceland have been thus far in Euro 2016 and it was great to see them qualify for the Last 16. You’d have to fancy England to progress here though and send Iceland home, England have played some brilliant football in parts of the tournament thus far, nearly all of the tournament – however they have just failed to find the goals that they deserved, especially against Slovakia in their last group game.
Iceland have defended brilliantly at stages however they have still conceded at least once in each group game and we feel that the 1.61 on England is on the large side here, who themselves have appeared solid at the back, but they have been very impressive going forward and we expected them to win here with relative ease.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
England to beat Iceland at 1.61.
Some England v Iceland facts:
- England are unbeaten in their last ten games at the European Championships over 90 minutes.
- England’s last four knockout games at the European Championships have gone to penalties.
- Both teams have scored in each of Iceland’s games at Euro 2016.
