EURO 2016 THURSDAY: We preview Thursday’s second semi-final between GERMANY v FRANCE played at 8pm.
Germany v France
8pm These two sides couldn’t have arrived into this game in more opposite ways after Germany had probably the worst penalty shootout win we’ve seen in a while against Italy and France demolished Iceland, scoring for fun in the first half. Both Germany have Italy finished that Quarter-Final looking tired and that could be the difference here – at the time of writing the current odds are Germany 3.05, France 2.84 and the draw 3.1.
We feel that France offer a shade more value at 2.84 than Germany do at 3.05, they should be the fresher of the pair and have looked good going forward while also being fairly solid at the back – however Germany have been very good at the back too, keeping clean sheets in now in four of their five games – they’ve now won 14 of their last 18 games at major tournaments, losing only once. So it will no doubt be tough for France, but we feel the hosts can edge it here, but rather than the 2.84 in the 90 minutes market we feel the better position is France at 1.95 in the To Qualify market – in what should be a very close game, it’s nice to have the draw in 90 minutes not as a loser.
It could be a cagey start to the game, and under 2.5 goals at 1.63 might be a good option for a trade, however overall we prefer France to qualify at 1.95 rather than under 2.5 goals at 1.63. It’s also worth checking what price the draw is at HT – it was a winner in the Germany-Italy game and this game could have a similar start, if it drifted to around 2.14, it would be worth backing.
