EURO 2016 WEDNESDAY: Three matches on Wednesday. At 2pm it’s Russia v Slovakia, 5pm Romania v Switzerland and at 8pm the hosts France against Albania. We preview each game.
Russia v Slovakia
2pm A lot of the press in England focused on the result of the game between England and Russia and were quite negative about England, while we seen reports on Twitter that the European press were a lot more positive, especially with England’s style of play – we’d certainly have to agree with the European press here, Russia were played off the park for most of the game and they did look pretty poor, their defense looked quite slow and we think they look like a value lay here at around the 2.44 mark.
Slovakia on the other played OK against Wales even though they lost 2-1, we just feel at the odds here that there’s far more value being with Slovakia than being with Russia and we’re happy to lay Russia at 2.44. Under 2.5 at around the 1.64 mark is of interest too, Slovakia haven’t scored against Russia in a while and games between the sides have been low scoring.
BETDAQ best bet:
Lay Russia at 2.44.
Some Russia v Slovakia facts:
- Russia have kept just two clean sheets in their last 16 European Championship finals.
- Russia have only won once in their last six matches.
- It has been 243 minutes since Slovakia last scored against Russia.

Romania v Switzerland
5pm You couldn’t read a huge amount into Switzerland beating Albania the other day as that was what they were expected to do, and they should have too much class for this Romanian side too who only had 35% possession against France in their opening game on Friday night. Switzerland are currently priced around the 2.46 mark which does offer a shade of value.
Romania only conceded two goals in the whole of Euro 2016 qualifying, however when at the European Championships, they’ve only managed one clean sheet in their 14 games. You’d imagine they’ll set up quite negatively here and play for a draw, it might take Switzerland a while to break them down and under 2.5 is currently around 1.6 – we feel that Switzerland draw-no-bet at 1.7 offers much more value than under 2.5 goals at 1.6 though, and indeed that will be our bet.
BETDAQ best bet:
Switzerland draw-no-bet to beat Romania at 1.7.
Some Romania v Switzerland facts:
- Of the 12 times the sides have met, the record is perfectly equal with five wins apiece and two draws.
- Romania conceded the same amount of goals in their opening game against France as they did for the whole of Euro 2016 qualifying.
- Romania have only won one game at the European Championships from 14.
- Xherdan Shaqiri has scored or assisted nine goals in his last eight competitive games for Switzerland.

France v Albania
8pm With France trading at 1.23 to win and fully expected to do so, we’ll have to look around at the side markets to find some value on this one. A French clean sheet is a good place to start and that’s currently priced at around 1.6, Albania have never scored more than once against France and of the times that they’ve met in France, they’ve only found the net once in three games – France haven’t got a fantastic defensive record though so at 1.6 we’re happy to have that one alone.
Over 2.5 goals is around 1.9 which is a decent bet however we prefer France -1.5 goals on the Asian handicap at around 1.85 – this covers a 2-0 scoreline too which could be important to have on our side rather than over 2.5 if Albania set up very negatively – France should be good enough to beat Albania by two goals and hopefully they do so.
BETDAQ best bet:
France -1.5 goals to beat Albania at 1.85.
Some France v Albania facts:
- France have lost just once in their last 11 matches at the Stade Velodrome.
- Giroud have scored eight goals in his last six games for France.
- Albania have never scored more than once against France.
