EURO 2020 QUALIFIER: We preview Monday’s Euro 2020 Qualifier between REPUBLIC OF IRELAND V DENMARK with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
7.45pm What a huge game in Group D of the Euro 2020 Qualifiers as Ireland host Denmark on Monday night in Dublin. Denmark sit three points ahead of Ireland and top of the group, with Switzerland two points ahead of Ireland and playing Gibraltar tonight. Ireland need to win, while a draw would do for Denmark. Perhaps you’ll see a cagey display from the away side with that in mind; however Ireland aren’t exactly the best side going forward either.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Republic Of Ireland 3.45, Denmark 2.36 and the draw is 3.4. Irish fans won’t have good memories of playing against Denmark, a side that they have played a lot in recent times. Two years ago Ireland took the lead against Denmark and were on the way to the World Cup, but the joy in the stands didn’t last long and Denmark ran out easy 5-1 winners.
Apart from that night in Dublin, recent games between these sides have been dull affairs. We’ll have an excellent atmosphere with so much on the line, but it’s hard to see the football on the pitch being that good. Both games between the sides finished 0-0 in the Nations League recently, while we saw a 1-1 draw in Denmark in this Group already. The good news for Ireland is they can obviously compete with Denmark, but can they beat them?
Even with Ireland needing to win, we can’t see them setting up to go all out attack. That just isn’t their style of play and won’t happen until late in the game. With Denmark only needing a draw, we can see them trying to kill the game off and not let the tempo get too high. Ireland don’t have much to offer going forward and we could easily see a stalemate. The draw makes appeal at 3.4 given the recent games between the sides, and under 2.5 goals looks good value at 1.65 but we like Both Teams Not To Score at 1.85.
Ireland are short on goals and they just don’t have the talent up front to create a host of chances. With Denmark only needing a draw we can see them focusing on defence rather than attack and with all this in mind plus the recent games between the sides, we can’t see past the 1.85 for our best bet.
