F.A. CUP SATURDAY: We look ahead to Saturday’s F.A. CUP games with extended stats and recommended BETDAQ bets.
MAN UNITED V READING
12.30pm Man United carry their fantastic league form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into a home tie against a Reading side struggling in The Championship. Since Solskjaer has taken over, United have won four from four and scored 14 goals in the process. In that same time, Reading have played four, losing three, drawing one, and only scoring once along the way. This appears to be a complete mismatch, especially at Old Trafford. United trading at 1.12 reflects that so we are looking elsewhere for value.
MATCH STATS
- Manchester United have lost just one of their 14 FA Cup matches against Reading (W8 D5) and are unbeaten against them in the competition since a 1-2 defeat in a second round three replay back in January 1927 (W7 D2).
- Manchester United are unbeaten in 16 games in all competitions against Reading (W12 D4), winning each of the last five – a run that started in the FA Cup back in January 1936.
- Since a 1-2 defeat against Swansea in round three of the 2013-14 FA Cup, Manchester United have won each of their four such games at this stage without conceding a single goal.
- This will be the seventh consecutive season Reading will be starting their FA Cup campaign away from home, winning two, drawing two and losing two of their previous six third round games.

BOURNEMOUTH V BRIGHTON
12.30pm One of the few Premier League match ups in this round of the F.A. Cup pits 12th v 13th respectively against one another. Bournemouth sit one point ahead of Brighton but recent form sides with the away team. The Cherries haven’t won in three whilst The Seagulls haven’t lost in three. You would expect some key players to be rested after the busy Christmas period, so in essence anything could happen. Brighton are 4.0 is a good outside bet but we are looking at the goals market for this one.
MATCH STATS
- This is only the third FA Cup meeting between Bournemouth and Brighton, and first since the Cherries won 4-2 in the first round in November 1993.
- Brighton and Bournemouth met in the third round of the FA Cup in the 1987-88 season, with the Seagulls winning 2-0 at home.
- Bournemouth haven’t won any of their last nine FA Cup games against top-flight sides (D2 L7), since beating Manchester United in January 1984 as a third division side.
- Brighton have made it past the FA Cup third round in eight of the last nine seasons, failing only at this stage in 2015-16 (0-1 vs Hull).

DERBY V SOUTHAMPTON
3pm Promotion chasing Derby County should prove a very tricky test for Southampton this Saturday as Frank Lampard has put together a good squad with plenty of flair. It shouldn’t be forgotten that this is the same team who knocked Man United out of the Carabao Cup in September. It is no surprise then that The Rams are trading around 2.76 with Southampton available at only slightly shorter odds of 2.72. Considering the Saints are in a relegation battle that looks set to last the remainder of the season, Premier League survival will be of greater importance than a cup run. We expect changes for Southampton and so fancy an upset.
MATCH STATS
- This is the fourth time Derby have been drawn against Southampton in the FA Cup, progressing on each of the three previous occasions, most recently in round three in 1997-98 (2-0).
- Southampton are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Derby in all competitions (W3 D2), with this their first meeting since February 2012.
- Derby have made it through to round four of the FA Cup in three of the previous four seasons, only failing to do so last campaign following their 0-2 defeat against Manchester United.
- Last season’s semi-finalists Southampton won all three of their away FA Cup games in 2017-18 – in fact, Saints have lost just one of their last 10 away FA Cup games (W7 D2), a 0-1 defeat against Sunderland in 2013-14.

BRISTOL CITY V HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
5.30pm Not much has gone right for Huddersfield this season as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League, four points adrift of their nearest competitor. Huddersfield have lost their last six games overall, compared to Bristol going unbeaten in their last six games. The Robins have beaten Huddersfield in two of their last three home games. In all three of these home games, the total goal count has been four (4-0, 4-0, 1-3). With Bristol’s home advantage, it seems that they’re the team to back at 2.34.
MATCH STATS
- This will be the third FA Cup meeting between Bristol City and Huddersfield – Bristol City won a third round tie in 2000-01, while Huddersfield won a semi-final match in 1919-20.
- In all competitions, Bristol City have won 4-0 in their last two home games against Huddersfield, both in the Championship in April 2016 and March 2017.
- Bristol City haven’t won any of their last 14 FA Cup games against Premier League opponents (D4 L10) since beating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield in January 1994.
- Huddersfield are looking to reach the FA Cup fourth round in three consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1965-66 campaign.
