GAVIN CROMWELL: A busy weekend for Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell sees horses running at Limerick, Hexham and The Curragh, all of which he previews here.
Limerick Saturday
We kick our weekend off with Bajan Excell in the apprentice handicap (3.45pm). He ran well the last day at Gowran Park and we’re hoping he’ll come on again for that here. The step up to 1m3f should suit and with the ground in his favour, we’re hoping he goes well.
Yafordadoe takes his chance in the seven furlong handicap (4.55pm). He put up his best performance to date when second at Listowel last time which looks a pretty solid run given the third was a winner on his previous start. He runs off the same mark here and with any luck he’ll get himself involved.
Hexham Saturday
We’re sending two runners over to England to run at Hexham on Saturday, with both Beneficial Quest and Dakota Beat engaged.
Beneficial Quest runs in the maiden hurdle (1.25pm) having made his debut in a bumper at Clonmel earlier in the month, where he finished down the field. He’s better than that performance suggested and we’re hoping his first start over hurdles will see him in a better light. He’s owned by the Gavin Cromwell Racing Club so it would be fantastic if he could put in a good performance.
Dakota Beat goes in the closing bumper (4.50pm). He won nicely on his last start at Kilbeggan and we’ve had this race in mind for a little while since. He looks the one they’ve all got to beat and we’d like to think it will take a pretty decent one to do that.
Limerick Sunday
The first of our Sunday runners is Walking In Memphis in the handicap hurdle (2.15pm). She’s had a really solid season so far, although we were a touch disappointed with her last run at Ballinrobe. The ground should hold no fears here though and she’s another who we’re hoping will go nicely.
Darver Star runs in the Listed Novice Hurdle (1.45pm). He’s probably the one they’ve all got to beat after his good win at Listowel last time. That was his third consecutive win, so he’s in great form and we’re looking forward to running him again. He’s still improving and looks to hold strong claims here, although we’d be a touch worried if the ground got really heavy.
Progress Drive runs in the Munster National (4.35pm). It’s his first start for us having moved from the Nicky Richards yard, so we’ll learn plenty more about him after this. He seems a really nice staying type though and he’s run well in some long-distance handicaps in England like this one before. He’s a nice addition to the yard and we’re looking forward to running him.
Curragh Sunday
Lever Du Soleil runs in the Irish Cesarewitch (4.25pm). He’s back on the Flat having run over fences on his last couple of starts, but given he won four on trot earlier in the season, it’s definitely not a negative we’re switching back here. It’s obviously a very competitive big-field handicap, but he’s got a nice weight of 8st10lbs and we’d give him an each-way squeak.
