GAVIN CROMWELL: It’s a relatively quiet weekend for us as we send a few to Kilbeggan on Saturday with the aim of finding out a bit more about them.
Saturday – Kilbeggan
We run two in the opening race at Kilbeggan (4.45) on Saturday, the first of which is Drop The Harrow. He didn’t run badly in a Roscommon maiden hurdle the last day and should improve with that experience under his belt, hopefully he’ll do better than his seventh-place finish when he last ran here. The second is Kabin Fever Too who goes for the first time here and regardless of what happens she should learn a lot from it.
Broken Ice did have a chance here the last day when finishing sixth and before that he ran well on the Flat at Bellewstown when losing out by a neck. He drops down to 2m for this handicap hurdle (5.45) which should suit him, and we’re not too concerned that he’s shouldering top weight. We’d be hopeful that he could pick up some place money at worst.
Falco Du Sauzay goes in the handicap hurdle (6.15), he was a little bit disappointing on his first run for us at Tipperary so we’re on a bit of a fact-finding mission with him again to see where we are. He’ll turn up here as a bit of an outsider and we’d be happy if he can pick up any prize money.
I Can’t Remember (6.45) ran in a maiden hurdle at Galway the last day after we bought him at the horses in training sale where he was running on the Flat. His jumping in that maiden was a little bit deliberate and he’ll certainly need to improve in that department, but he will have come on for the experience that’s for sure.
Spades Are Trumps goes in the beginners chase (7.15) and he really wouldn’t mind a bit of rain. He’s been a bit of a frustrating horse to train having won his maiden hurdle on his second outing but since then he hasn’t been able to get his head in front despite having plenty of chances. Both the track and trip here should suit him and it’s not a huge field so hopefully he can give a good showing of himself. He’s one of the better rated ones in the race so if everything goes right for him we hope he can be involved.
Sunday – Downpatrick
Belville Babe (1.40) will take a lot from the experience at Downpatrick, she’s been going fine at home but you just never how they’re going to go on their first day at school.
