GAVIN CROMWELL: Brand Ambassador and dual-purpose trainer Gavin Cromwell looks back on a double for the yard at Gowran on Monday and ahead to his runners at Cork on Friday and Tramore and Gowran on Saturday.
We’ve had another really good week with a double at Gowran on Monday. Luis Van Zandt was impressive in the handicap hurdle, although it wasn’t the strongest of contests. The handicapper has given him a pretty harsh-looking 12 pounds which makes things pretty tricky for him next time. We’re not in any rush to get him out again and we’ll let him get over the win before making any future decisions.
Flooring Porter was really gutsy and stuck his head out really well considering he was a touch keen early on. He’s gone up eight pounds for the win meaning he’s now off a mark of 130 and we’re looking forward to running him in the Grade B Handicap Hurdle at Galway next Friday. The weight rise is obviously fairly substantial but he’s in really good heart at the moment and hopefully he can put in a similar performance next week.
Cork Friday
We run two at Cork on Friday. Both Glen Luce and Yafordadoe run in the maiden hurdle (4.40pm) and the former will probably be up against it here. He’s doesn’t look quite up to winning a maiden and he’ll be seen to a better effect when he starts off in handicaps.
Yafordadoe will hopefully run well. It’s his first run back after a break and he’s been pretty consistent over hurdles, so fingers crossed he can run well again here. He won a couple of times on the Flat for us last season, so he’s got ability and he could be in the mix if he can put his best foot forward.
Tramore Saturday
Captain Courageous goes in the handicap hurdle (7.15pm) on Saturday. He ran okay the last day finishing behind Bread And Butter which obviously looks handy form now. It looks a fairly deep race considering the grade with a few last time out winners involved, but he should run a solid race.
Gowran Park Saturday
Ahthatsgrand and White Pepper run in the fillies maiden (1.20pm). The latter is out of Fast Company and goes nicely enough at home. She’ll probably want further than this in time, but this looks a nice starting point for her and we’re looking forward to getting her out on the racecourse.
Ahthatsgrand ran no sort of race on debut at Cork earlier this month. She’s much better than that and we’d like to think she’ll show that on Saturday.
Our final runner of the weekend is Almost A Dream who goes in the apprentice handicap (4.50pm). She ran okay at Sligo on her first run back after a break and is progressing all the time. We’ve booked a good apprentice in Mikey Sheehy and we’re looking forward to running her.
