GAVIN CROMWELL BLOG: Champion Hurdle Winning Trainer and BETDAQ Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell previews a busy few days of runners in Ireland and heaps the praise on Grand National hero Tiger Roll.

It’s a pretty busy time of the year for us with runners over the Jumps and on the Flat. The horses have, on the whole, been running well which is good with a number of big meetings still to come over the next month or so.

We’ve got plenty of runners over the next few days, a few of which I think have got decent chances, so fingers crossed we can get a winner or two before the weekends up.

WEEKEND RUNNERS

NAAS (Saturday)

We’ve got our first two-year-old of the season running in the second race at Naas on Saturday (2.20pm).

Dragon Of Malta is a nice horse who I think will run well. As with all of these two-year-olds, you can never be sure what’s underneath the bonnet until they get out on the track. It’s very much a learning experience to find out where we are with them and once we know the ability they have, we can map out their season.

Later on the card, we run Ciao in the 1m4f handicap (5.45pm). She ran pretty well in the Irish Lincolnshire last time on ground that was a bit soft for her.

She’s in good form and the more the ground dries out the better. We’re stepping her up in trip which I don’t see being a problem, so we’re hoping for a solid run.

TRAMORE (Sunday)

Blue Heather takes her chance in the mares bumper at Tramore on Sunday (5.35pm). She ran a nice ran the first day against some useful types including Champion Bumper winner Envoi Allen, though she was a bit disappointing last time.

She’s been going well at home, so hopefully she can return to a similar level to her first run as that would give her a good chance of being competitive. A bit of rain would be a bonus, but she’s a nice mare that looks to be going the right way.

DUNDALK (Sunday)

Over at Dundalk, one of the good servants of the yard, Political Policy lines up in the 1m4f handicap (4.15pm). It’s not the hottest of races and we’re claiming 7lbs which should make his life easier.

He knows his way around the track having won there eight times, so hopefully he can put his best foot forward and make it nine.

TIGER ROLL

Tiger Roll is a fantastic little horse. To think he’s improved this season is amazing and his victory last weekend was fantastic. He’s become a real crowd favourite which is totally understandable given the fact he’s won at four Cheltenham Festivals and two Grand Nationals.

As to whether he should have another go at it, it really depends on what the handicapper does. He’s not a big horse and I’m not sure he’s be up to lugging a big weight around there. If the handicapper wasn’t too harsh on him then I’m sure he’s got it in him to give it another shot. He owes us all nothing though and is a horse of a lifetime.
