GAVIN CROMWELL: With nine runners this weekend Gavin’s yard are set for a busy couple of days, and he reckons Peaches and Cream has a chance of placing at Cork.
Navan Saturday
We run three horses at Navan on Saturday, all of who ran in the beginners chase (1.35pm).
Brex Drago hasn’t quite jumped fences as we hoped he would so far, though it was a little better the last day at this course. We’re hoping he can build on that here before we start him in handicaps.
Prospectus ran a nice race last time on his first start over fences. That showed his liking for this track so he should run a nice race.
Spades Are Trumps ran in a pretty hot beginners chase which included Faugheen. He jumped well enough and should come on from that here, though he’ll need to step up fairly significantly in order to feature.
Punchestown Sunday
We were a little disappointed with Averne in the Fishery Lane the last day. On the back of that, we’ve decided to go chasing with him and he runs in the beginners chase (2.20pm).
The way the last day went we just thought we’d see how gets on over fences and we’ll have a good idea where we stand with him after this.
Biddy The Boss goes in the handicap chase (2.50pm). She’s been a little bit disappointing recently and is on a bit of a recovery mission now. We think the mark she’s running off now is more realistic, meaning she should be more competitive and Brien Kane takes another five pounds off. The step up in trip hopefully brings out the best in her, though it’s hard to see her being involved on what she’s done of late.
Cork Sunday
Pretty Fantasy and Bajan Excell run in the maiden hurdle (12.35pm) at Cork. The former was lowly rated on the Flat and looks up against here, while the latter ran well the last day and should run a nice race. It looks like we’ll be up against it though against Joseph O’Brien’s runner.
Peaches And Cream runs in the handicap hurdle (2.05pm). We’d prefer it if this race was over 2m4f as this minimum trip might be a bit on the short side for him.
We ran him at Cheltenham last time and it didn’t really suit him, but that can happen to a lot of four-year-olds over there so it wasn’t the end of the world. The trip is a slight concern, but he should run a nice race and would have a small each-way chance.
Bianca Minola is our final runner of the weekend in the handicap hurdle (3.35pm). She shows plenty of ability at home, but just hasn’t be able to translate that to the racecourse yet.
We’re putting cheekpieces on her for this and we’re hoping that might improve things. She’s back down in grade as well so if she can show us what she’s shown at home, she’ll have a chance.
