GAVIN CROMWELL: A busy weekend lies ahead for Gavin and his yard, as they have runners in both Tramore and Kilbeggan, each of whom he previews below.
Our horses continue to run encouragingly which is always great to see and we’re looking forward to the weekend where we have plenty of intended runners. Here’s a look through them.
Tramore Saturday
We kick things off with Skerries Harbour in the maiden hurdle (1.35pm). It’s his first run for us having come over from Colin Tizzard’s yard and we’re still learning about the horse. We haven’t done too much with him yet and we’ll have a better grasp of his abilities after this.
Pour Pavore won the last day in Wexford and he goes in the handicap hurdle (2.10pm). We’d like to think he’ll improve for that and if he does, he should have solid claims once again.
Bentham will be on the go throughout the summer and he makes his first start in handicaps over fences (3.20pm). He has plenty of ability and he’s going well at home, so we’re hopeful he can go well. Handicaps should suit him.
Our final runner at Tramore is Presentingnewyork in the bumper (3.55pm). We were a little bit disappointed with her in Down Royal, but on the face of it the run looks decent considering the winner has won a Grade 2 subsequently and a couple of other winners have come out of it too. We’re very much looking forward to her and we’d be disappointed if she was beaten.
Kilbeggan Sunday
Broken Ice takes his chance in the handicap hurdle (3.00pm). We think the track and trip will suit and hopefully he can run better than last time where we hoped for a bit more than he showed at Wexford.
He’s not the most straightforward, but Clonguile Way has ability as shown by his win over fences last time. He runs over hurdles (3.35pm) this time and in all honesty we’re not sure what sort of performance he’ll put in, but if he’s on a going day then he should be competitive.
Bread And Butter was second the last day where he didn’t jump all that well. He goes in the beginners chase (4.10pm) and we’d like to think this track and slightly easier fences should help him. It’s quite a competitive contest for a race of its nature, but hopefully he can pick up some prize money all the same.
Top Of The Charts (4.45pm) was a bit disappointing last time at Wexford over hurdles and we’re switching to fences now. Joey Dunne takes seven pounds off his back which will make his life easier and fingers crossed he can show a bit more of his old spark.
Quick Suzy
Quick Suzy worked really nicely during the week and we’re very happy with her ahead of the Queen Mary in a couple of weeks’ time. It’s very exciting for the yard to have our first Royal Ascot runner and to be one with a chance makes it that little bit sweeter.
