GAVIN CROMWELL BLOG: BETDAQ Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell looks ahead to his runners over the first three days of the Galway Races
We’re all really looking forward to the Galway Festival. It’s an important meeting as lots of owners want to run their horses and the prize money is outstanding. We’ve got plenty of runners over the seven days and we’re hoping a few of them can continue the yard’s good form.
Monday
Our only runner on the opening day is Prospectus in the 2m1f handicap (7.40pm). In an ideal world, he’d want the ground a bit softer, but he should be able to cope with the better ground, so we’re happy to take our chance. It’s obviously a very competitive race and we’d be happy if he ran well.
Tuesday
We’re looking forward to running Quantatmental in the Listed Novice Hurdle (5.20pm). We thought the smaller field here would suit him better than a bigger field handicap, so while we’ve pitched in him in a stronger race, he is more than capable of making his presence felt. Joseph O’Brien’s Fine Burello probably looks the one to beat off 10st 10lbs, but we don’t think our horse is out of place in the line-up by any stretch.
He only just missed out on running in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham where we thought he’d run a big race, but unfortunately he didn’t get in and his season has slightly tailed off since. However, there’s plenty of ability there and hopefully he can put it all together and go close.
Innamorare runs in the Premier Handicap (7.40pm). We actually didn’t think she’d get in, so it’s fantastic that she does and she runs off just 1lb more than her neck second in another competitive handicap last time.
Her draw in 12 isn’t ideal, but Leigh Roche rides Galway really well and she’s in good order at home, so if she can repeat her form of this season, she has the ability to be there or thereabouts.
Conamara Handshake (8.10pm) ran a cracker last time and we’re hoping he can follow that up here. We aren’t entirely sure where a mark of 67 leaves us as it’s hard to know how good the Bellewstown maiden he ran in was.
He is another who hasn’t got a great draw, so we’re not going in with huge expectations and this run will tell us a lot more about where we are with him.
Wednesday
Walking In Memphis was a very good winner the last day at Downpatrick and she takes her chance in the mares handicap hurdle (6.10pm).
This race has always been the plan since that win and although there isn’t a massive break between the two races, we think this two miles around Galway will really suit. It looks another competitive Galway Festival handicap and she’s gone up 10lbs, but we think she can still be competitive off a mark of 109.
