GAVIN CROMWELL: This weekend Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell gives an insight into his stable stars for the season ahead and previews his weekend runners.
It’s a busy weekend for us this weekend with quite a few runners so I’ve picked out some that I think are our strongest chances. Before that though I just wanted to touch on a few of our stable superstars,
My Mate Mozzie is the first of them who was very impressive on his hurdle debut last week. He was very slick and professional over his hurdles and showed a good turn of foot that saw him quicken away well to the line. I couldn’t have asked for much more. He should be an exciting horse this season and if the ground doesn’t go too soft then the For Auction Novice Hurdle at Navan (7th November) will be a likely target.
In other news, Quick Suzy is heading to the Breeders’ Cup in a couple of weeks’ time, and it’s all systems go as she’s in cracking form and we’re all very excited.
Sunset Shiraz broke her maiden this week and I was delighted for her that she got it done, she’s been a great servant this season consistently running at the top level, and she did it in a really nice fashion as you’d expect from one that’s been running at Group level.
Saturday Galway
White Pepper runs in the 2m½f juvenile hurdle (1.20pm) and will have learned plenty from the last day so we can definitely expect a step forward from her here. I’d be quite disappointed if she doesn’t manage to make the frame in this as everything looks to be in her favour.
Derrylinda goes for us in the 2m½f auction maiden (1.52pm) and she was a nice winner of her bumper in the spring which would have to give her a bit of a chance in this. There’ll only be eight lining up in this it looks like and her jumping at home has been of a very high standard so I’m hopeful that she’ll have a very strong chance come the finish.
Sunday Galway
Alfa Mix comes here for his first run of the season in this 2m6f beginners chase (1.42pm). On ratings he should definitely have a chance and in what he’s been showing of late at home that’ll also put him up there. He was last seen when finishing third in January at Fairyhouse and he’s shaping as though the step up in trip here will suit. I’m hoping he can give his best showing on the day and be there or thereabouts.
