Hi guys, Glen Johnson here. After a whirlwind start to the Premier League season, there’s another great round of fixtures to look forward to this weekend, with Manchester City v Tottenham the pick of the bunch. Frank Lampard will be looking for all three points as Chelsea host Leicester, while Liverpool face a tricky trip away to Southampton. I preview all three matches and share my weekly accumulator recommendations.

Super Cup shows Lampard’s on right track

It’s been a tough start to life back at Chelsea for my old teammate Frank Lampard, but I think the heavy defeat at Old Trafford might be what was needed as a wake-up call for him and the team to realise the scale of the job they face.

Despite not getting the result they wanted, it was a much better performance against Liverpool in the Super Cup, and I don’t think Frank will be too tough on his squad as he knows he must keep them onside and get performances out of them.

I’m confident he can get things right there in the long run. He’s a strong character, and I still fancy them to reach the top four this season which, all things considered, would be an amazing achievement for them.

Frank faces my old boss Brendan Rodgers this weekend and, while I’m backing Chelsea for this one, I expect Brendan to do well for Leicester this season.

I’ve heard people say they can break into the top six this season which will be tough but if anyone can do it then it’s Leicester. If I had each-way bet, I’d go for the Foxes or West Ham to do so.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

Liverpool picking up where they left off

It looks like Liverpool have picked up where they left off from last season. They are playing well and picked up a good result against Chelsea while bagging another European trophy, so it’s all positive for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

They could find it tough against Southampton this weekend after playing 120 minutes in the Super Cup during the week, and St. Mary’s isn’t an easy place to go to. From a Saints perspective, they’ll have that on their minds and will probably try to play a high-paced game to get at Liverpool early and look to cause them problems.

It’s unlikely the team that started against Chelsea will change too much. Klopp might look to change one or two to freshen things up, but it’ll be more or less the team who played the majority of Wednesday’s match.

With that in mind, Southampton will look to take advantage of that, but I think Liverpool will still have enough in the tank to pick up all three points.

Prediction: Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

All square at The Etihad

While I expect Liverpool to be City’s biggest challengers this year, I think it will be very tough to shift Pep Guardiola’s side from top spot this season. They looked unstoppable against West Ham and if they continue that form nobody will lay a glove on them.

After a busy transfer window for Tottenham, I’m looking forward to watching Giovanni Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon when they come into the squad. It’s a shame Spurs didn’t get Dybala over the line as I think that would’ve been a great signing and help push them to the next level.

It’s going to be difficult for Spurs to break the top two this year as well, and for me Mauricio Pochettino really has to win a trophy this year to make all his good work at the club worthwhile.

I think this fixture will be close, and I’m backing Spurs to show some fight and nick a draw at the Etihad this weekend.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-1 Tottenham
