GLEN JOHNSON BLOG: BETDAQ brand ambassador GLEN JOHNSON isn’t surprised to see Emery depart Arsenal and isn’t worried about Liverpool conceding goals.

Managers under pressure

It’s clear there are a number of managers in the Premier League who are under pressure at the moment. It’s never an easy situation, especially if the manager lets it filter through to the dressing room as it’s really hard to believe in what they are doing. If the manager sees what’s being written in the press and tries to change their methods accordingly, it sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn’t often resonate with the players.

It doesn’t take many bad results for things to turn for managers. Unfortunately for them, that’s the nature of the beast these days. It’s a results industry so if things deteriorate then managers find themselves in trouble.

I can’t say I’m surprised that Arsenal have sacked Unai Emery. For a club of its size with the players they have, Arsenal should be competing in and around the top-four but to be eighth in the league shows how far behind they are under Emery.

Arsenal not an attractive proposition

You just have to look at clubs like Leicester who are really flying at the moment to see how much Arsenal have fallen. Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job at the King Power and with Emery now sacked, Rodgers is the sort of manager Arsenal should be looking at. His style of play and mentality would really suit the club but I don’t think it would be the right fit for the current side.

I don’t think he’d enjoy managing there at the moment because there are so many players in the team who are mentally weak and fold when under the pump. The days of Arsenal having a backbone are long gone. For a manager looking to takeover a new team, you’re going to want to see players who have the stomach for the fight and I don’t see many of those at the Emirates.

Lack of clean sheets not a worry for Liverpool

The fact that Liverpool have conceded in 11 consecutive matches isn’t much of a worry from my perspective. When you play top teams you’re not going to be able to keep them out every week. Obviously you’d prefer to keep clean sheets, but Liverpool have only lost a couple of games in the whole of 2019, so it’s clearly not having too much of an impact. The likes of Virgil van Dijk will be keen to kick out the little errors that are leading to goals, but given the Reds’ position in the league table and in their Champions League group, things are still in a pretty rosy position.

Fabinho would be a big loss

I think almost every Liverpool fan would have been concerned to see Fabinho go off injured against Napoli on Wednesday night. He’s been immense so far this season and has become one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet. Fingers crossed it’s just a knock and he was taken off as a precaution as this is not the time you want to be losing your best players. Liverpool have got a very hectic schedule of fixtures over the next month or so and they’ll need as many players as possible fit and firing.

The festive period is always a busy time of the year, but with the likes of the League Cup and Club World Cup on the agenda, Liverpool have got more fixtures than normal. It’s a period players always enjoy and look forward to, but there’s always the slight worry that if you get injured, even if it’s a really small one, you could miss a number of really important games.
