HAYLEY TURNER: Delighted for Victoria Pendleton’s Wincanton win this week and looking ahead to an At The Races studio shift for Lingfield this afternoon.
First of all well done to Victoria Pendleton, that win couldn’t have been better timed. The knock she got at Fakenham must have been a real blow to her confidence, so that was just what she needed. I fell off 8 times in a day when I started, and I improved! It’s all about experience really and no doubt she will get better.
I’m sat at home writing this with the racing from Southwell on in the background. Conor Dore who I rode for an awful lot just had another winner his horses are flying. I’m still not feeling the need to get back riding though, maybe I’ll miss it more when the grass starts and the sun comes out.
AT THE RACES FOR A LINGFIELD FRIDAY
I’m off to the At The Races studio today; I’ve had a good look at the Lingfield card. One horse I’m getting my confidence back in is Grey Mirage who runs in the 3.40. He was unlucky up the straight on his last run but its was the first time I’ve seen his enthusiasm this year, lets hope he keeps that for today.
There are a heap of fast track qualifiers this weekend with Good Friday just around the corner. The one tonight at Dundalk didn’t attract a huge field but the horse that stood out for me was Shalaman. It looked like the 2m stretched him last time, back now to 1m4f which he has won over round Dundalk twice before.
Mark Johnston has done the miles again with his horse. For me though, he wasn’t as unlucky as people have made out when finishing 5th at Lingfield so I’m staying away from him at such a short price.
I’m looking forward to the Spring Cup at Lingfield on Saturday. It is a very competitive race, with some promising improvers in the field that are stepping up in class for the first time. Sea of Flames being one of them.
The horse I like is Race Day, although he always needs a good drive and a few slaps, I think he has more up his sleeve than he’s been letting on. He’s basically a lazy sod who needs bossing. His cheek-pieces probably help the jockey as much as the horse but I think he can go close.
