HAYLEY TURNER: Tuesday, Champion Hurdle – Super Sub, Annie Power winning would set everyone up nicely for the week. I’m glad to see hood has been removed, she will have needed it for her latest victory at Punchestown with her being fresh as well as the small field and the longer trip. Two miles at Cheltenham will make settling her much easier.
It an open looking race behind her. I like The New One, he has a great strike rate and has been close in this before when things didn’t go his way.
Wednesday, Queen Mother Champion Chase – This is going to be a good race to watch! It’s the one I’m most looking forward to. The standard just gets higher each year.
Sprinter Sacre would be a popular winner but Un De Sceaux seems a class above them. I would have liked to see some blinkers on Sire de Grugy, he needs to do something a little bit more than his best.
Thursday, Ryanair World Hurdle – Thistlecrack (pictured above) has just got better and better this season. I don’t know how Tom Scudamore has slept since his he won at Cheltenham in January, I’d be too excited. Apparently nothing can get close to him on the gallops so they don’t really know how good he is… Nice problem to have.
Friday, Gold Cup – I’m going on Friday, it’s going to be a nightmare getting home after but it will be worth it! There are a few ifs and buts in the race. Although course winner, is Vautour going to stay? and Don Poli will have the stamina?
Djakadam had a nasty experience here last time and needs to put that behind him. Horses cope with these accidents differently. Seal of Approval who had a bad fall with me on at Doncaster, then went on to win a Group 1 a month later. Some, put the hand break on forever! It is impossible to know, not even Willie Mullins could know for sure.
I’d like to see the week round off with Don Cossack winning for Gordon Elliott. The drying ground will be in his favor and if that comes off, with the rest of my fancies, BETDAQ will have had a great week with all of you winning! 🙂
